Debating on getting a Rep Nighthawk or a bunch of misc cable and rack attachments for my next purchase.

It is ridiculous. Get one off craigslist or whatever.
Most people buy sports equipment and then never use it or the most common reason is they have a kid and need the space.
I got my treadmill like this; a 1 year old treadmill worth $1.5k for $200

True - I have bought indoor bikes and elliptical trainer bikes and finally a big treadmill (all suck) but each time it was either a couple moving in together or them having a baby. Each time it was her getting rid of his stuff - at any price.
Could be worth the trip to a more densely populated area to pick up a bargain.

>how much did you spend on your home gym?
About $6K over a decade (more, if I count the ac split unit). CL and fb marketplace are kind of dead in my area. I’ve been dedicated to bodybuilding/strength training for a couple decades and decided I was going to slowly acquire quality gear over time. I also still belong to a gym because machines are convenient, and my space is limited. I wouldn’t do the home gym thing unless you’ve been training for a few years, consistently. I know guys who have spent, upfront, as much as I have and then quit lifting or couldn’t stay disciplined working out at home—it’s an acquired skill.
>inb4 ree I hate people at the gym
Not enough to ensure a home gym will work for you imo.

Buy everything second-hand, there's too many people with their workout equipment getting thrown away without you buying more new stuff. It's environmentally-friendly and cheaper if people just get stuff from eBay or whatever.

I washed the dishes at my house yesterday and thought about how people are always buying new cutlery. Why? Just buy preowned cutlery so we're not constantly having to smelt up new metal while simultaneously burying old metal in trash dumps.

inb4 some """aristocratic""" """superior""" guy tells me he doesn't want to eat with other people's used cutlery or use workout equipment other people have sweated on. Get over yourself, we're supposed to get a little dirty. Surely you've been to the gym and used workout equipment others have sweated on before or gone to a function and used other people's cutlery.

Probs $1000 at this point, but I'm 2 decades in. I bought the $300 Oly starter kit from Sports Authority (same one available at Dick's now), gradually added to it over the years. Built some of my own equipment, found some of it used. Latest addition was adjustable dumbbells.

Kek I had the same realization. I end up mostly using my rack as a functional trainer by doing some frankenstein DIY connecting pulleys to the lat pulldown/low row tower. I could've gone with one of these instead and be fine.

Yep, pretty much (or the eonfit omni, which is basically the same thing). You can connect a fringe sport mammoth belt squat to that tower if you want to do heavy squats down the line. I feel I fell victim to powershitter's opinion.

fast changing of weight, can go heavy, blocky shape
>peppins
just as heavy, fast changing as well, but cost as much as a full set of individual dbs, new kid on the block so longtime durability is questionable
>ironmasters
heaviest, more traditional dumbbell shape, slow changing of weights
>spinlocks/oly db handle
can get you by, but the better options are above
>bowflex, nuobell, similar
avoid due to the plastic parts that change the weights are prone to breaking

pbs are good, they are used in university and military gyms nation wide. i've used them for this reason, but disliked the shape, so when i bought my own i went with ims because i didn't have the space for a full set
if you can, try them out before buying

Funnily enough, it was a full rack at first but i had to cut it and remake it into this because it took too much space and was awkward to walk around with stuff. The gym is placed in a corridor that leads to a garage so i move stuff sometimes through there. I figured i don't even like back squats that much so i just made it a half rack and enjoy front squatting and lunges. I'm thinking about a pulley system in the future, it's piss easy to make. Tricep pushdown and lat pulldown would be great additions. For now it's skullcrushers/ overhead tricep extensions, rows and pullups so not too bad. I do dumbbell pullovers too.

Some people say they have insane monthly gym payments so it probably doesn't even take that long to get the 2k$ saved but in my case I live inside an apartment cell so I pay for the gym to get in a relatively wide space to do all kinds of movements. I also can walk to my gym too, if you have to drive there then that also has to usually be accounted in the cost.

Nothing yet since I found a bench, bar, loadable dumbbells and iron plates in a shed after a family member died. They're really cheap 1" bars and plates and the bench isn't comfortable so I'd like to get better stuff eventually but I might as well wait and save up until I'm maxing out this shit I have now. One thing I might get sooner is a cardio machine of some kind since winter makes going out for runs more of a hassle

Just to add a few thoughts to this
>pbs
Having your hands inside the pb cage can feel very awkward. Definitely go to a Dicks and try them out: my local store had a workout area set up for people to try things.
>peppins/reppins
Have already seen videos of these getting loose or breaking when people drop them
>ironmasters
I went with these a long time ago and have no regrets. They’re just awesome, and changing plates doesn’t take so long. They are expensive, but less so than the reppins, and expandable to like 165lbs each. They also sell a heavy handle kit, which makes the minimum dumbbell weight 20lbs and really compresses the footprint of each one—definitely feels better when the weight is more compact and centered in your hand.
>spinlocks/oly db handle
Horrible and frustrating
>bowflex, nuobell, etc
China trash, don’t waste your money

One last recommendation, if you have money to blow: Thompson fatbells. They feel awesome and natural. It’s like making your hands weigh more. Only problem is cost, and Rogue for some reason won’t make them in regular sizes and normal 5lb increments, so assembling a full set would be hard.

I'm from 3rd world.
60kg adjustable dumbbells (30kg each side) + a bar that turns them into barbell
some plastic dumbbells (bought long ago)
some bands, resistance and shoulder stretchy stuff
a foam roller for running/cycling activities
no bench. no chair. no rack. if I lift it's either standard stuff, or zercher styles.

a free backpack that I can load some plates (roughly 20-25kg) so I can do heavy carry walking. and maybe weighted pushups too

a thick 1 meter rope that I will attach to a pole and do inverted rows

what I will steal next: some yoga blocks/bricks so I can do deeper ROM pushup as well as yoga stuff. some cements from nearby construction sites. some metal bars.
