Unironically nights give gains. You get to go to the gym when no one is there so you don't have to deal with troglettes hogging the racks or the benches, you can get a good rhythm for exercise, and generally speaking night work can be physically active if you make it that way. Bad take OP

bs. if you worked nights you know it just kills you slowly. Both physically and socially.

>go for drinks? No, I can't do tuesday because I get off work at 7am and sleep until night, then wake up and sleep again at 4am, how about wednesday?

>wake up
>it's 8pm on a friday
>you're still tired as fuck
>you want to get some breakfast while your friends want to go for drinks

It just sucks no matter how you look at it.

>try to workout between my 12hr night shifts
>fall asleep between sets, literally
Fuck that shit. NEVER again.

>Can't do shit because my friends want to drink
You need better friends if all they do for fun is drink. Low IQ hobby.
>Still feel like shit waking up at 8pm
If you stick to nights only and don't do the scuff splits you can make it work well. I get a solid 8 hours sleep a day and it really doesn't do much for me. Been working nights for 5 years and actually consistently make strength gains.
>Try to work out between night shifts but fall asleep between sets
Sounds like a you problem. You would literally be doing the same thing in reverse if you worked normal hours. I technically work an 8 - 6, its just in a different 12 hour period. All my friends are introverted types that hang out in the afternoons for stuff like DnD or gaming. Not a sacrifice

Nope. It's pretty much the worst.

There are some comfy elements to it, like there is a beauty to going home and hearing birds sing while the sun rises (but then may as well be one of those tik tokers who gets up at 4AM), or how if it's not like a warehouse job or anything you pretty much have nothing to do and can straight up take naps on the job.

But then the vampire lifestyle of never seeing the sun in its full glory catches up to you physically and mentally, you never sleep as good during the day as you would at night. You gotta block every square inch of light coming through your windows, there are no noise laws during the day so fuck anyone who works nights boomers are going BBBBRRBRBRBRAAAAAAW on their lawnmowers and leaf blowers the dogs of course are going BARK BARK BARK WOOF BARFK YAPYAPYAP the zoomer kids next door are blasting angry teenager music, it's 35 degrees during the day and you don't have AC etc.

I only worked nights for like 4 or 5 months and it ruined my life.

I've worked second shift 32pm-10pm for 12 years now full time. Love it and hope I never have to work 1st shift again. Love not waking up to an alarm first thing, being able to relax and take it easy for a few hours before work, love being at work with almost nobody else to deal with, love going to the gym later at night around 10:30 or 11 when it isn't busy and is easy to use whatever I want. I guess if you're some big social butterfly normie then working night interferes with your heckin wholesome social life and time gossiping around the break room at work, but I love basically everything about it as just a single guy who doesn't want a stressful life.

Night shifts destroy your soul. They were bad enough in the military but then I did some for a couple months at a ski resort. Not even anything just sitting there playing video games on my computer as a guard. And then I had a windowless fucking apartment. I don't know. It's the lack of sun and zero social activity and your lost sense of time just destroys you physically and mentally.

i dont understand how people can do night shift work, how they can just completely flip their entire schedule around.

i mean obviously i do understand how it works literally. but just the concept that you go to work from say 11pm-7am. you come out after your shift, and the day is just beginning, but you go the the gym until like 8 am, then go home and cook yourself breakfast food or dinner food? then you do a typical evening routine until 10 am, where you go to sleep, and wake up at 6 pm. now you have 4+ hours until work.

this confuses the hell out of me. its like you have to completely flip it 360 degrees

Maybe I just donโ€™t get it, but I canโ€™t imagine normal people (meaning people who are social, do hobbies, have friends and a relationship and kids, etc) voluntarily doing a night shift job. Friendless loner autists, sure. But I just canโ€™t see it. Why would a normal person want to be awake when other normal people are sleeping, and be asleep when theyโ€™re awake? It seems like it would eliminate so many possibilities of having a happy and social life. I dunno, maybe thereโ€™s plenty of opportunities for socializing in your non work and non sleep hours and it actually isnโ€™t that bad. I guess your free time hours, assuming itโ€™s the traditional 8-8-8 block of hours, would be something like 4pm-midnight. I guess that means you wake up when everyone else is getting off work and have off the entire evening to do things with people?

Iโ€™ve been working as a night shift nurse for about 1.5 years now and it fuckin sucks so much. I have been able to get stronger and lose fat in that period of time by being very disciplined with my schedule but it absolutely sucks for my social life and life in general. I work 3 12 hr shifts and have 4 days off per week but I stay nocturnal on my days off as well to keep my circadian rhythm and be healthy. A lot of my coworkers switch their schedules on their days off and that literally destroys your body. If you stay consistent with your schedule you will be ok and still make gains. What sucks is I wake up around 5 pm on my days off and usually I like to workout first thing but if my friends or family want to hangout Iโ€™m only available in the evening so my workout gets delayed to later on at night so that means no drinking which could be viewed as good or bad.

Im chasing cyber security and I'm going to an interview today for a SOC analyst which will involve night shifts. I'll have to juggle that, kids amd kindergartens and 2 more years of college. What I'm hoping for is a year max and i get moved to a different department or something. Ive worked nightshifts every 3rd week for 2.5 years and even tho it was comfy i know its bad for health. I'm not looking forward to the following period but i think its worth it in the long run just to get an in into the industry.

Iโ€™ve worked partly night shifts for 20 years and it just gets worse.
Itโ€™s nice because itโ€™s comfy as fuck to work when all the bosses are out, and itโ€™s nice to have time off when nobody else has. To go shopping or whatever.

But it fucks you up. The constant change of your sleeping schedule is the worst thing in my opinion.
Itโ€™s not only that you donโ€™t sleep good because of the night shift itself, but it also screws up your circadian rhythm.

No, I worked nights for 5 years and swapped over this April because the client didn't need them anymore. Working nights is fucking max comfy. It's nice and quiet all the time, night-time gym at 3am is comfy and empty, and having a nice walk home at 5am after hitting legs is just something else.
The issue is retards who do nights for 1 week, then day shifts for another week, then back on nights. You literally deserve all the shit you get if you're retarded enough to do that instead of having a night-shift job that is permanently only nights

Rotating shifts is the worse - we call them 3x8 or even worse 5x8.
When the shift changes every week your sleep is fucked - can't see friends and family.
I did it for 3 years and my sleep is still fucked.
I could never train 2 out of 3 weeks and when I could I was too tired.
Not worth doing.

replies are really surprising me, i thought we were all alike but the majority of u seem to despise night shift.
i love the night shift life, i was already staying up all night as a neet so its no different.
my main motivation to work nights was the pay increase though, im uneducated so i refuse to work anything but weekends, nights etc. so that the pay is actually somewhat OK.

evenings are nice but nights suck. 3-10 or 4-11 is a solid shift, I always enjoyed that.

the worst part is that mornings ALSO suck. the 9-5 is absolutely fucking soul crushing. honestly I have to be in at 8 a lot and it's just as bad. working before 10 is horrible.

trust me, an office job is 100x more torturous than shift work.

You just need to have a good schedule.
I work 12 AM to 7 AM, sleep from 7:30 to 12:00 PM. Train around 3 PM, i can still go out if i feel like it.
Sleep again from 8 PM to 11:30 AM before work. Biphasic sleep works really well for me.

Idk how it's in other countries, but here night shifts are mostly done by uneducated low skill people who have no other option than night shifts if they don't want to starve. It's usually manual labourers working on assembly lines.

The existence of night shifts is insane because it spits in the face of human nature. I have done night shifts, and it's literally impossible to be physically and mentally healthy while doing them.

their counter is always, "why? You can work out together" which shows they are even more retarded and lonely.

lemme spend my spare time building you a routine centered on your ass, while teaching you how to lift, what to eat when I'm trying to escape.

Genuinely pretty bad, even if the Indians/Pakis taking the jobs have a chill vibe
>Evening shift at meat packing
Daijobu, mostly because its not actually night
>Night shift medical
Lmao. Its always pretty bad, and its only managed trough extensive trade-off shifts
>Taxi
You pay your driver EXTRA to take the shift + the early morning shift, and see if you can also get the other licensee owner to do the same so somebody will run 3-4 nightshifts(every 3-5 weeks) with extra pay without the hassle
>Night watchman at X Y building
There is a reason why its a meme, and the center of OP's post
There is also a reason the job became a lot more exotic as networked CCT became a thing, and you could have a crew and a vehicle guard an entire sector of town. Meaning the job only exist if the area lacks a CCT and guard providing service.

Security/service desk kind of bullshit. Some days(nights) are hot, most are not. Watching stuff on YT and playing games until early in the morning most of the time and shitposting here, then sleeping until the early afternoon. Out to catch some sunlight in the backyard and straight to lifting before the normies' workday is over and the gym gets swarmed
Wouldn't change it for a 9-5r for double the pay.

That's nowhere remotely close to a night shift you have to be going to sleep while the sun is clearly risen.
And yes, its fucking awful the only upside is that you're mostly unbothered during that time so you can try to work shit in but its barely even half effectiveness because of terrible sleep and the whole time you're working you KNOW in the back of your head your whole day is being wasted for shit that nobody actually needs done at four in the morning.

shift rotation is what fucked me up. The constant changes in sleep schedule wreaks havoc on your appetite, gut health is shot to shit and you are constantly trying to catch up to your sleeping rhythm.

Add to that the energy drinks and you have heart palpitations at 30 if not careful.

7 shifts including the weekends is how you sell your health for money.
