I used to work a warehouse job where I walked 10+ miles a day, and it was easy mode for staying lean. I've got a better job now but miss the side benefit of burning so many calories.

I'm looking to get into rucking a few times a week to simulate the effect since there isn't enough time for me to simply walk that much every day now. Assuming this will work, how should I start and what kind of basic equipment is best to get started with? Weights in a backpack seems the obvious answer, but I see vests etc out there too and I'm not sure which way to go.

If you want strong legs, squat heavy
If you want to get good endurance, go run
If you want to explode your knees for some god forsaken reason, feel free to ruck.

you burn way more calories than advertised. You must stretch after or you'll pull something, in Basic they made us stretch after to avoid pulling a muscle.

Its also a full body workout minus the arms, it's all you need but unironically

It's better for your knees than jogging and running, but this is assuming you're using weight you can handle. If you're doing 100lbs marches your shoulders are done for.

I recommend at most, 65lbs but RIP to your shoulders and you'll pull muscles if you don't stretch. 20lbs is the sweet spot for beginners

Do you listen to vets complain about their knees and back and think, "gee, the only thing cooler than that would be dealing with all those problems with my own shitty insurance and no support network"?
Then rucking is for you!

Unironically a loading problem. Drill instructors dgaf about making some chubby untrained neet jump straight into rucking 100+ lbs with no previous training.

I do 20lbs and I am pretty much lighter and smaller than everyone on this board.

No issues doing it 7x a week but I also do exercises for runners knee at the same time to help support the weight.
The rule of thumb is to do 10% of your weight to start and no more than 25%

For reference the US army goes at 30% as ideal but everyone gets fucked up knees so try to get too close to that.

Don’t do it, it’s silly, you look silly, and soldiers themselves look silly.
“We are le serious manly men out here with the boys we have guns” this is a larp. These men aren’t soldiers or warriors. They’re mimicking what the failed NFL coach thought a soldier is.
I don’t want to insult my beloved country on its birthday but Hitler kicked the shit out of us.
The HitlerJugend had better fitness standards and results than SAS and Seals.
Just walk instead. Embody the spirit of the wanderer and travel by foot.
Sprinting is the best leg workout you can do. Been this way since the days of Achilles and in those ancient days they found Achilles on an island practicing nothing but dueling and sprinting.

Nice try, Mr. Neverserved. Basic training builds up distance over time and carries a relatively light ruck, and God help you if you're chubby.
It's your permanent station that destroys your body, usually because your leadership is a bunch of children trying to be 'hardcore" to impress each other.

there's no reason to go above 20 pounds you will rarely go periods carrying more if you are the least bit conscious of how much weight you are carrying for extended periods

Nigga just walk to the supermarket with a tramping pack to get your groceries. The supermarket is exactly a mile from my house uphill and I buy mineral water to drink so it can get heavy at times.

The general guideline for rucking is to carry no more than 20 percent of your total body weight.

For example: a 180lb man would ideally carry a load of 36lbs

There should be no injury risks assuming you start out with a manageable weight and time, allow recovery and gradually work your way up in duration or intensity.

I go "rucking" once a week or 2, basically fill my rucksack with 10x2l water bottles and hike over the hills and through the woods to a spring I know to get fresh spring water. It's a little exercise that I make time for and it's always a good time, I always feel tired in a good way at the end of the day. To be honest it's a thing that I look forward to

I use a 60lb weight vest and do incline treadmill. Max incline of 15 degrees at 2.7-3.2 MPH

Just finished a cut from 245 -> 185 so wearing the vest is the same as wearing nothing when I started.

I like weighted incline walking because it gets my HR higher than jogging and is easier on my knees, plus you can do phone stuff while doing it if you want

I've been lifting for 15 years and on gear for the last 7

When you have significant muscle mass and use anabolics, your weight can fluctuate drastically due to water/glycogen levels.

In this case, I went from 4,500kcal -> 1,700kcal and cut out carbs entirely

I "lost" 20lbs in the first 20 days (again, mostly water/glycogen weight)

It's pretty common for my bodyweight to fluctuate 30-50lbs between bulk/cut.

Currently, I'm 14-15% BF and trying to see if I can make it to 10%, so I'm going to attempt to lose another ~10lbs.

Not sure if I'll make it, weight loss has stalled last few weeks and I don't want to cut cals so low I feel like I'm dying.
