It may seem like a good place to be, but for children who can't drive or take a bus somewhere else, suburbs are very much like cages. Your friends are only the kids on the same street, and your experiences and abilities are confined to that area. You can't even walk somewhere worth going, because it takes hours of walking just to get somewhere that isn't a row of houses flanking each side.
It gets increasingly worse when you get older and can't drive and/or don't have a car. As a preteen, you either have to beg your parents or someone else's parents just to go anywhere, which they reluctantly do, if then even do it.
It's just not a good environment to grow up in. It's ver sheltered and limited.
