You don't have to be rich to live well in most cities. I'm certainly not. Just have take the time to know the neighborhoods and find good places to rent or buy that matches what you want in a location. Grew up in the rural burbs of a small city. I don't hate them and they certainly have some appeal.

None of that really matters though we are trying to figure out how to keep people from getting fat and make fat people skinny. Do you have any input on that topic?

i grew up in the backwoods of WV. in town down the hill people have real houses and the cities are walkable. where this place in WV is there aren't retarded zoning laws that prevented business and residence to be segregated. the first time i walked through a suburb i was 24 and genuinely terrified. it was a total ghost town. there were no children outside. no doors open. all windows were blinded shut. not a single garage door was open. no music, no noise. while i was surrounded by a sea of copy and paste houses there was not a soul in sight. zero sign of life. it felt like i was in a silent hill game. the sidewalk also abruptly ended so i had to walk through peoples yards to get to where i was going. maybe it was a shit suburb. i really don't know what a good or bad one is. they are a foreign concept to me. it was hopefully the first and last time i'll ever have to step foot in one for as long as i live.

I grew up in a suburb. It may seem like a good place to be, but for children who can't drive or take a bus somewhere else, suburbs are very much like cages. Your friends are only the kids on the same street, and your experiences and abilities are confined to that area. You can't even walk somewhere worth going, because it takes hours of walking just to get somewhere that isn't a row of houses flanking each side.
It gets increasingly worse when you get older and can't drive and/or don't have a car. As a preteen, you either have to beg your parents or someone else's parents just to go anywhere, which they reluctantly do, if then even do it.
It's just not a good environment to grow up in. It's ver sheltered and limited.
