This, I went on a giga bulk to build muscle while skinny fat and just ended up fat (but stronger), then when I cut I lost all the muscle and strength while the love handles were still there.
It's true "you burn more fat if you have muscle" but it's only like 5% more at best. Just get as lean as you can while lifting high reps isolation exercises, some cardio and try to get 200 g protein a day. Basically do the opposite of what /fit/ says

Depending on how fat you are you can either recomp or lean bulk. You could also cut first and then gigabulk, but that's a bit of a waste of time imo (and novices generally don't do very well on gigabulks, that's more of a thing you do once or twice as an early intermediate).

You always regret being too lean when you're small and disappear in clothes. Being lean when you have no muscle is also useless because there is no muscle to reveal with better definition, you just end up bony with faint abs even at a ridiculously low bf%.

Recomp is king
Go put on muscle, eat well, sleep well to recover, train hard as fuck while tapping into your own fail and still eating 3x a day
