How ripped can you get from just manual labor without actually lifting weights in a gym? I just got a new job that is physically intense and i barely got any energy left for lifting. I notice all my lifts are also down

Webm somewhat related

People thought i lifted because of my shoulders, traps, arms, before i ever started lifting . Until they saw me with my shirt off. I worked like a slave for a while though. Some labor jobs are much harder than others.

Mostly depends on what you actually do and if you still get your meals in & keep your protein intake high. Mine involves a lot of walking and lighter manual labor, not much rest and only very little lifting of heavy objects. I also don't get to eat whenever I should, and I've lost a significant amount of muscle and strength and I'm also mostly depleted. It's just seasonal labor though, and I'm usually back to where I was before after 2-3 months of lifting again.

You won't build much if any muscle from most manual labor jobs, but it does have 2 advantages.

1-It's easy to get and stay lean since your caloric expenditure is so high.
2-Grip strength and upper back strength will be decent, this is since most of the lifting involved in manual labor jobs involves moving objects from point a to point b, basically farmer carries

Really depends on the labor. I've never seen a small mover, for example, even if they're fat they've got big ass backs. Turns out lifting heavy ass furniture all the time gets you jacked. Stonemasonry will build muscle too if you're moving your own material, also mixing concrete by hand regularly will blow you up, between the actual mixing and lifting 50-80 pound bags off the ground constantly, which is common for smaller contractors or jobs that don't need a mixer machine.

they all end up fat because doing it just destroys your body and any energy you have outside of it and they all have shitty diets
they stay pretty strong if they don't have crippling back injuries

You also burn more calories than conventional lifting as a sedentary, your grip strength will benefit from manual labor but otherwise you'll always be a DYEL unless you're permabulking which will make you a fatass on the long run

it kinda sounds like if you just up your caloric intake you would see some gains. Literally just go to chipotle and get a 1200 calorie burrito for dinner every night.

I know people who have done manual labour for 20 years and are in amazing shape still. What they've told me is
>Don't do anything stupid, like thinking youre tough moving heavy and awkward objects by yourself. If it's a 2 man job get another guy to help, youll fuck up your back doing that yourself all the time
>Always keep your posture good. It's fine to bend over in a retarded way once in a while but if you're doing that all day you'll end up fucked, for example
>Meal prep, stay out of culture of eating fast food and gas station shit because that will make you fat
>Keep drinking to weekends, no heading straight to the bar after work every day
What I've been told by the guys in great shape doing manual labour, is that you'll only end up a fatass with a destroyed body and bad back and knees (which is the stereotype of a lot of construction workers and shit) if you do all of that wrong. Which makes perfect sense to me

Damn bro. Harsh being woken up to the reality of universal suffering and strife like that.

But while we don't have full control over whether we live log lives, or ones that are short as sticks, we can still make it count by taking down the highest tree and damming up the biggest river.

Piss in fates face, as if you were out for a nice swim in the lake. WAGMI my beavers

I believe when they stop chewing, they are listening for specific low decibel crack sounds which warn them that the tree may be about to fall. I'm sure it happens from time to time, but beavers are quite experienced with felling trees. Genetic memory and all that.

Manual labor is actually terrible for gaining muscle. Unlike the gym where the equipment and exercises are designed to keep you safe and target the muscle directly, everything you do in manual labor will be awkward, strenuous, and painful.

Most manual labor is like aggressive cardio with occasional attempts to fuck up your joints and destroy your back. The average gym goer can grow more muscle in 3 hours of lifting per week than 40 hours of manual labor a week.

Most blue collar guys I know who are jacked STILL hit the gym. If you don't you'll just be skinny fat with good grip strength, good body positioning, and a bad back. You will have some muscle, but it'll be very hard earned muscle.

the energy thing is a big change I noticed with certain jobs I've had, I just try not to be a pussy about it since I figure its just a part of adult life, harder to workout after an 8 to 12 hour shift then it was after school or practice

I like to think of all the jobs I've had up to this point as the functional conditioning I don't get from my actual training

yeah there is no progressive loading, its cardio and then suddenly you have to lift 80 lbs of not balanced weight out of a terrible non optimal lifting position and on uneven ground.

they do on the field for sure. field work is entirely machinized. its livestock keeping that still has some medium manual labor involved occasionally, but even that is rather light load and can be done by women. i once had to help drag out a dead pig out of the stable and it weighed about 200kg. moving pigs from stable a to stable b can also sometimes be a wrestling match. but thats it.

it also gets in the way of your gym sessions. you always have to plan around your work days because you cant use your work days as rest days when your work is manual labour.

not often, they stop and listen every few chews to hear any cracking and then waddle away
if the tree is a reasonable weight for its thickness then it'll topple itself over at a reasonable rate that they can escape from
of course sometimes they guess wrong
