What is the best way to hydrate?

What is the most hydrating thing you can drink? I have had people tell me that just plain water is not a great hydrator because it lacks electrolytes

I have also heard that the sugar in sports drinks also help with hydration somewhat.

Also temperature, would hot drinks work as better hydration than cold beverages? I heard that you digest hotter things more easily

Discuss hydration below

there are salt mixes that help hydrate you more efficiently than plain water, but it's only worth using them when you are exherting yourself or when you are sweating a fuckton, otherwise just water is perfectly good
>Also temperature
lukewarm to cool (but not icy cold, at least I don't like it but I drink pretty quickly and the temperature shock in my stomach gets unpleasant so YMMV). The hot = better digestion thing is for food and has no bearing on water absorption, but desert people do drink hot tea on hot days for temperature regulation (essentially it just makes you sweat more)

I had a classmate and some friends from pakistan and apparently it's conventional wisdom there that "cold water goes outside the body" and hot water goes "inside the body". Figured it had to do with hydration and not temperature regulation but that makes sense

Hydration isn't just the amount of H20 in your system, it's a balance of electrolytes and fluids.
Sugar causes insulin to increase, insulin causes the body to retain electrolytes.

You are correct that water will hydrate you, because most people scarf down hot salty shit constantly, leaving insulin high, storing electrolytes. All they need is water

basically since your body is mostly water a single glass of chilled water won't be able to lower your body temperature a significant amount (think of it as putting a spoonful of cold water in a pot of warm water), while pouring it on yourself will have a greater effect thanks to its evaporation taking away a lot more heat (but of course won't provide hydration). Drinking hot water hydrates you (technically a bit less than cold water since it also promotes more sweating) and cools you more through sweat, so it's probably more efficient when water is scarce. If water is abundant pour it cold on yourself for cooling and drink it at whatever temperature you prefer for hydration.

also in Pakistan most water is likely infused with shit and garbage so boiling it before drinking it likely decreases the chances of getting sick, that might be another reason why they generally don't drink it cold there

Wait until you're thirsty like genuinely thirsty not just mouth bored. Then drink as much water as you want it'll probably be somewhere in the neighborhood of a 3 cups to a quart. Repeat. Let thirst regulate itself if you're thirsty enough to walk somewhere to get water you're probably fine.

Get a 2liter thermos and a sodastream.
Berocca pills and electrolyte powders.

Put the stuff into a glass and pour in some water and let it sit until finished.

Pour it into the thermos along with the rest of the water.
The berocca and powder gives it a bit thicker viscosity and diffuses the sodastream water a bit so it's real nice to drink.

And since it's a 2liter container, you are eventually going to get used to wanting to empty it daily. You know you also have to finish it or else you've wasted your resources.
The extra water you'd need daily is going to be by feel.

>What is the best way to hydrate?

You know Europeans laugh at Americans, with their huge water bottles which they carry around everywhere - even worse most of their bottled water is just filtered tap water.

Just drink when you're thirsty - like we're evolved to do.

what they meant was that water alone can't be a good hydrator because if you only drank water you die (and i don't mean the meme death by drinking 8l of water in a day) but months of fasting with only water, you would die. think about it, you also need fluids from food (vitamin and/or protein induced fluid), else you could never survive (some forms of advanced water can also be found in certain milkshake flavors - you could live months on end of banana milkshakes e..g., but never water - that's important). that's what we mean by properly hydrading

your body is made out of water
milk isnt fasting its got hundreds of calories and is mostly sugar and fat
coconut water also has calories unlike water

water has minerals, dont tell me you fell for another internet meme diet grift? for fucks sake

All important minerals slightly below isotonic concentration (above isotonic gives you kidney stones in the long run), and some sugar to speed up absorbtion. if you want the medical background, look up what they give to people with chronic diarhea or excessive sweating.

>>76357953
Water from a stream or river has more minerals in it than spring water or rain water, and modern bottled water are the latter two. And even if you're not fasting, if you work out, you'll quickly lose more sodium, kalium and magnesium than you get back from food. I know from personal experience that two days of rucking in midsummer's heat are enough to get me cramps all the time on normal food, while eating mostly bananas or drinking electrolyte drinks stops them.

I did a job on SE Asia (>30c 90% humidity) and I used to lose 0.5-1L sweat an hour - piss was brown.
This is dehydration - most of these people have just got a bit sweaty.

the nutritional wisdom of this board has gone down the drain in the past few years. I swear to god more than half of /fit/ gets their dietary advice from youtube shorts by quack doctors or liver king or colorful "infographs" made by /x/ retards.
Like they think fasting for days is a good idea because some snake oil salesman with a deep calm voice told them so, and because it goes against the grain with the normies. Literally falling for a fad like some 50 year old mom busy with her kids.
Not to mention feels so good to achieve nothing in life, and then, with no effort, suddenly be enlightened compared to everyone else. All you have to do is believe a lie.
