Soul food is pretty much the same thing poor white southerners traditionally eat. I know this because both sides of my family were poor white southerners, and my dad still eats that stuff as comfort food. I only got on some of that when I was a kid because I wasn't raised as a poor white southerner. I do have a taste for boiled peanuts and hoe cakes, but that's pretty much it.
