ive been trying to increase my flexibility, with the current goal of a standing split. ive been trying to use several tutorials/routines for general flexibility/yoga but ive not seen any improvement in 2-3 months. i can't do any of the exercises as shown in most references involving legs, i forced myself to put palms on my feet with a motor and pulley jig; it hurt really really bad then i couldn't stand for a week(only tried once though).

i'm not terribly out of shape, but i'm also not a athlete. i use walking as my main mode of transport so my leg muscles are quite tough but stiff. my arms/neck/abs are already flexible as i actually need to use them every day with a good rom but my back/legs are incredibly stiff.

can anyone suggest a solution/advice? is there anything i can do outside of just stretching to speed up the progress? 23 male sub 100lb btw.

what. the. fuck.

start high leg moves by lying on your back. later do them against the wall. One problem many people face when doing high leg moves while standing is blocking themselves because the wrong muscles get involved

train middle and front splits mostly

trick is to do every other day, 4-16x 10 sec (first time then increase SLOWLY the time)

Take baking soda before a stretch session, makes me 2-3x as flexible. Look up dosages, I take like 1/2 teaspoon at 170lbs which is like half the recommendation but still works. Don't take it long term, this is not a safe supplement to take daily. It lowers the body's pH, probably why it makes everything loosen up.

i already use alkylation for burst performance when needed, yes it does do various things but restricts aerobic performance. not sure if it would help with stretching even temporarily, i'd assume lowering blood ph would for short periods though so i'll try holding my breath and compare (bicarb raises it btw)

I'm trying to figure out what to do for basically the same goal. I think with bending over and trying to touch your feet or whatever you're too prone to shift the demands to your lower back either curving that or straining it, at least I am because my hamstrings are a million times stronger than lower back. same with the elephant walks and pancakes and all that bs.
instead I am starting what are basically lying front kicks. first with the leg bent pull your femur up close to your body as far as possible, then from that position slowly extend at the knee as far as you voluntarily can. do kicks basically. then hold the stretch for 30s.
