Was plateauing with my weight, been doing 36 hour fasts every week for 4 weeks, decided to do a ~60 hour fast this week, weight went down 4 pounds since sunday morning. Pretty good. I thought would bounce back after fast, but just kept dropping.

That was about 10 years ago. I dont remember much. I think prolonged fasting probably has a negative effect on long term memory formation.

Anyway, i broke that 28 day fast with 2 chicken tenders, some green beans, and a small serving of humus.

I’ve been doing rolling 72s for the past three months and I’ve been really happy with the weight loss, I’m on track to hit my goal weight in another two months

HOWEVER, I’ve also noticed that since I began I’ve been losing a lot of hair. I’m kind of getting to that age now where it just happens naturally but I swear it was all there before I started and now I’ve got a Vegeta tier hairline

Can fasting cause hair loss or am I just a coping proto-baldy. If it matters I haven’t really been being very nutrition-conscious on my refeeds

To the guy who asked me pic related, heres your answer.

I broke my fast of 6 days, 17 hours at 11am yesterday. I weighed myself right before i ate, and i was exactly 237. I ate lunch of 200 calores. Ate dinner at 6pm of 400 calories, and began fasting again. I just weighed myself again, 15 hours fasted, and im 233.4.

3.6 pounds down after refeeding.

I am contributing this to the fact that im on sufficient electrolyte dosages. I was holding a ridiculous amount of water, and refeeding caused me to shed that water..

Does anyone have some studies or scientific articles going into why fasting is both safe and effective? I've been doing alternate day fasting since I just recently started, and its concerning some of my friends and family since they're worried i'm essentially choosing "eating disorder: the diet". I've only been doing it a short while and am already seeing some serious progress after nearly two years of plateau so anything I can use to help them understand would be great.

Unless youre intentionally trying OMAD for your refeed, this may be too much. If you really want to, eat half of it spread out over about an hour or so, then see how you feel. Ive made steak, egg, sardines, and sauerkraut as a refeed and saw that I could only eat half of it anyways.
> will refeed around this time or push through to 120 hours
If your work allows you to take a couple nasty dumps then yeah, go for the refeed in the morning. Youll probably feel pretty tired after eating tho so idk how important your job is to pay attention to things. Its best to refeed in the morning so your body can readjust to things and not fuck with your sleep, but if you need to then do it in the evening.

Anonymous No.76401127 >>76401477

IMO, like 90% of caffeine "withdrawal" symptoms are psychological. Allen Carr proved it years ago with his book on quitting caffeine.
The headache is extremely mild, most of the suffering is psychological from believing you "need" caffeine.

I'd tell you to just give it up and not consume any caffeine, at least while fasting. It does interfere with a fast and causes a zillion other negative health effects.

If you really, REALLY "need" that caffeine, allow yourself half a glass of water once a day to get these pills down. It's not strictly a dry fast anymore but it's still better than a water fast.

You get wildly different approaches because everybody is a little different and the human body is pretty good at adapting to whatever you throw at it. Trying to chase 'perfection' is a losing game.

Personally, I drink 1.75 liters(old repurposed vodka bottle) of electrolytes every day I do a water fast because I know my body will just pee stuff out if I get too much.

>>76401408

>>76401320
Whenever you need it. If you start to feel a headache coming on thats probably a good time to start taking in. In the past, Ive not taken electrolytes until day 3 of my fast, but this is my first fast in 7 months so I needed it my first day. Just pay attention to what your body is saying.
>>76401408
>can i just fast on the off days?
Yes, I'd probably have a protein heavy dinner after training. You can also work out while fasted, but don't expect to break any PRs or anything. If I lift while fasted I usually do so about 5%-10% under my usual routine. If it feels like pushing myself harder will make me pass out, I usually drop the weight lower or just call it a day.

I personally don't believe in fasting with electrolytes/salts.
Fasting is to abstain from ALL eating, and this should also include minerals and salts and vitamins and so on.
I would love for anyone to explain why these salts are an exception to fasting or why do I "need" them.

If you really are worried about lacking some nutrients and minerals (malnutrition), fast for much shorter periods of time (48h max.) and improve your diet in the days that you eat.

Most negative experiences with fasting come from people in plant-based diets, vegetarians, vegans and so on, because these people are malnourished by default.
If you've been eating the natural human diet (meat, eggs, dairy) for a while and avoiding junk, you shouldn't be worried about it.
Your body should have enough minerals, vitamins and other stuff to get you through two or three days of fasting. If not, improve your diet, don't rely on stupid supplemental salts.

Personally, I don't believe that fasting for over 72h is worth it. If you really want more results, switch from water fasting to real fasting (dry fasting).
Anonymous No.76401782
>>76401724
>I would love for anyone to explain why these salts are an exception to fasting or why do I "need" them.
Its mostly for people doing fasts longer than 3 days, and it helps alleviate some of the symptoms of not eating. Going about your normal day to day with a headache isnt ideal, and Im going to assume most people who are fasting to lose weight just care about not spiking their insulin which electrolytes won't do. Electrolytes aren't needed but it just helps things move along. Some people fast with lemon water and bone broth and I think that's retarded since youre getting those insulin spikes still, but whatever, its just what you make of it I guess.
Anonymous No.76402557
>>76401724
The question is not whether or not you're doing "real" fasting, that's gay and retarded. The question is what gives the maximal benefit and minimal downside.

If you take electrolytes and get majority of benefits of fasting without headaches or symptoms you'd otherwise get without electrolytes, then electrolytes are better. Then you can fast and go make money/babies also.

How should i break the fast? I've got some watermelon and low calorie yougurt (not greek) in the fridge, would this be alright? Should i make myself an omelette peraphs? Cheese? i find so many conflicting information on the internet on how to break the fast, so im just resorting to asking here.

As for breaking the fast. Go with fatty or protein rich food. Your body is in peak ketosis, so fruits, sweets, carbs will make you feel like you are dying. So, eggs with cheese is a great idea, I'd include some non carb heavy veggies. Don't go full stuffing the face when breaking the fast, just eat normal amount. Make sure your food is salted.

Maybe a little but keep in mind that on a prolonged fast the lean tissue catabolism is part of what is keeping you alive.
On prolonged fast, past ~3 days your liver needs to be producing ~50 grams of glucose to keep your red blood cells alive. Some of those carbons come from lean tissue.

I wouldn't be that worried about losing muscle anyway, you don't lose the muscle cells, they just become smaller and less effective.
Bodybuilders sometimes get injured and get put onto bed rest which makes them lose ton of volume fast. Then when they start training again the muscle comes back at rate you'd think isn't even possible but it is.

This is what I'm trying to avoid. I'll continue resistance training during fasting, so I think a little extra GH will substantially aid in repair and recovery, providing extra prioritization to repair of vital and active tissues. Now, if I can just stop drinking beer, I'd easily make it down to 11% bf

Well here's a good lesson for you guys
>Doing a 4 day fast
>Break my fast 16 hours early because I need to get bloodwork done for my yearly checkup
>Get the results back
>Everything is mostly fine, but I test very high for ALT (53 U/L, normal range is 10-45)
>Doctor starts freaking out saying I might have fatty liver disease (I'm also on carnivore, at this point 2 months in so she thought my diet was killing me)
>Tells me to come back in a few weeks to get my blood checked again

I did a bit of research online. Turns out ALT is also secreted during muscle loss, and a research paper from a few years ago found that you can induce false positives for fatty liver disease about half the time on blood tests by subjecting men to weight lifting programs before getting bloodwork done. So, I did no lifting and didn't fast for 3 days before my blood test this time... and my alt levels came back completely normal.
Doctor moment.

As long as you're not doing something like dry fasting or fasting for over 3 days it's very hard to actually hurt yourself. Problems show up slowly and fix themselves by eating.
Otherwise most fasts start the day before by eating the bare minimum you can stand and then you start the actual fast when you wake up the next morning. There's something about sleeping without enough food that resets your brain and makes it easy to not eat long term. It's a good idea to stock some sort of sleep aide.
Aside from improving your life to remove stress and to occupy yourself, what you drink during and eat before and after there isn't much else to think about when it comes to fasting. It's really simple to just not do something.

I've only ever had issues with shitting while fasting, during my last 3 day fast I hadn't shat in 3 days and by the final day I was feeling terrible because I wanted to shit but couldn't. The next day after eating I managed to shit and everything went back to normal.

fat storage distribution is genetic and you'll have some fucked up ratios especially if you're quickly losing fat instead of doing body recomp.
So either start eating clean and do a high protein deficit for a long time, or keep going until you lose all of that fat.
