As the anon said, predisposition to hard work is genetic, but you can always force yourself to do hard work just like how someone left-handed can train to operate right-handed equipment.
However, when everyone has more or less the same environmental factors and hard work, genetics is what separates them, but that is only relevant at the top of the top level.
