I've come to the conclusion that sleep hygiene is a fucking meme made up by easy sleepers to wind up people with sleep issues so they feel shit about themselves and struggle to sleep even more. I have struggled with sleep my entire life, always found it difficult to get to sleep nearly all the time, whereas apparently it's normal to take only 15-30 minutes to get to sleep.

Recently did over 6 months of great diet, no screens before bed, drawing 1 hour before bed to relax, great exercise regime with a lot of cardio included, no sugar, no caffeine, no stress. Genuinely none of it helped at all. It still would take me an hour or so to get to sleep, would always be tired in the morning having to fight to wake up and get out of bed. It's genuinely all bullshit, none of it works.

The only times I've ever got to sleep fast is either staying up at least 24 hours, or after doing labouring for a full day, or after grinding a video game for 18 hours straight and feeling like a zombie afterwards. And when those times happen no amount of screen time, food, sugar, caffeine is going to disrupt my sleep. It's all a fucking scam.

I've come to the conclusion that dieting is a fucking meme made up by slim people to wind up people with weight issues so they feel shit about themselves and struggle to diet even more. I have struggled with food my entire life, always found it difficult to stop eating nearly all the time, whereas apparently it's normal to eat only 600 calories 3 times a day.

Recently did over 6 months of great diet, no screens before bed, drawing 1 hour before bed to relax, great exercise regime with alot of cardio included, no sugar, no caffeine, no stress. Genuinely none of it helped at all. It still would take me a month or so to lose 1lb, would always rebound the next week having to fight to not gain anymore weight. It's genuinely all bullshit, none of it works.

The only times I've ever dieted better is either doing fad diets like keto or water fasts for at least 72 hours, or after walking all day, or doing video games for 18 hours straight and feeling like a zombie afterwards. And when those times happen no amount of screen time, food, sugar, caffeine is going to disrupt my weight. It's all a fucking scam

Have you actually gone to the doctors? If not then stop complaining, its your fault etc. You need a sleep study doing asap.

Just get sleep drugs. Everyone with insomnia knows sleep hygiene is bullshit.

I used to walk around with welding goggles on for hours before bed, and it did nothing.

Also have you considered that you might have a magnesium deficiency or zinc deficiency or something?

Bunch of retards. Look into the recommendations for the American academy of sleep medicine. You are correct, they do not recommend sleep hygiene ias a first line treatment. It’s a supplement to sleep scheduling. It would be like eating McDonald’s everyday and bitching that your athletic greens isn’t working. No shit. But it isn’t the bullshit powder, it’s your bullshit diet.

Sleep scheduling and restriction where needed is where to start. Everything else maybe comes later. Goggles and drawing? Nope.

I bet all of you get to sleep late and then sleep in, or take naps to make up for your bad night of sleep. That would be like fasting all day and eating a tub of ice cream before bed and claiming fasting or calorie deficits don’t work. You’re sleep fat. That’s why you can’t sleep. Limit opportunity for sleep to a window. Like intermittent fasting. Get a sleep opportunity window and stick to it, sleep fatty.

I like in the UK, getting anything like that on the NHS will be an uphill battle I imagine. Take ZMA daily.

Awful isn't it.

Sleep scheduling doesn't work for me, my body does not want to sleep and so it pushes back my sleep time by an hour and then I struggle massively to get out of bed. I'm not talking I don't want to get up, I mean I legit have 3 alarms on the other side of my room with offset times that I get up and turn off then get back into bed all without remembering waking up. I legit cannot solve this and I have missed appointments, events, work, school etc because of this despite wanting to go. The ammount of times I have still been awake by 3am but need to be up in 3 hours so I've just done an all nighter is uncountable.

Exactly, like I said, not getting out of bed on time because you are tired from being up having trouble sleeping. You might as well be saying “I am fat so I try to diet but then I get hungry and binge”. Stop being a sleep fatty. Many such cases. Maybe like other people said you have sleep apnea or some shit because you are a fat fatty, too. But, then you’d probably be snoozing every time you sat down and annoying everyone around you with snoring.

Right so what are the practicalities, I CANNOT sleep on time, and I CANNOT wake up if I haven't had 8 hours. I legit have lost jobs over this. I will only be able to wake up on time if there is a persistent alarm like a fire alarm that I can't turn off.

Genuinely tell me what I should do practically rather than just say "sleep fatty".

I believe OP is just a bitch that doesn't respect routine and consistency. Sleep hygiene isn't a meme, it's required since our living conditions have changed. It's like adaptation is a thing, and there are consequences for living in a society.

Fair enough. Keep trying. Everyday. Continue to set the alarms and stick to them to the best of your ability and let your body sync. But, look, you just said it, you sleep 8 hours. You can’t not sleep 8 hours. Get it? Your insomnia is like acid reflux, it’s your body rejecting an attempt to sleep too much. Wake up at the same time every day no matter what. And you’ll fuck up, but keep trying to stick to your new diet and eventually develop the discipline/habit. And once you are closer to getting your shit sorted it’ll become more automatic. Nobody’s perfect, don’t be a spaz when you fuck up, just get back on the horse and CICO that shit.

Loud alarms. Discipline. If you have friends or family recruit them to come slap you around and throw you on the ground when you try to sleep through your alarm. It won’t be easy but you can get there with hard work and discipline.

>its a fucking meme
>i cant sleep!!
Yeah then you have no idea that it's a meme
I get 7-8 hours 90% of the time and the remaining 10% where I get under 7, it fucks me up for a week. Sleep is not a meme. I recently had a swollen turbinate in my left nostril and I was depressed because my sleep was fucked

What an unusual problem.

I don't know what to say other than to keep trying stuff until you find something that works. There has to be a solution out there.

If all of that is actually true then you NEED to go to a specialist and have a sleep study done. Fortunately, you're a subject of the UK, where healthcare is free, or so I hear. Shouldn't cost you a damn farthing to get this sorted right out, chap.

Yeah it's great, you get instantly seen if you leg is hanging off, rest of the time you have to wait 10 months due to the waiting list and the horde or browns in front of you.

If you have trouble sleeping, take a look at the bed you’ve made (figuratively). I’ve never met anyone, myself included, who had trouble sleeping that wasn’t something heavy weighing on their conscience. Be honest with yourself about what’s keeping you up and whatever you’ve done or are doing that you feel guilty about confess and quit doing it, or continue having trouble sleeping.

There's a form of meditation that I've found is useful to getting to sleep. I think the army recommends something similar but they referred to it as "getting out of your body"

It is concentration meditation, where you focus on your breath (or a mantra). But before you begin, get into a comfortable position in your bed, relax, and then for the duration of the meditation, don't move. The trick is to focus on your breathing while remaining as still as possible. This will quieten your body and hopefully put you to sleep.

What the other dude said, have a fixed hard wake up time. Don't do naps. Shrimple as that. Let's say you want to get up early, like me right now, got up at 0300 to hit the gym. I'm sipping my pre-workout coffee while I type this, but I didn't habitually wake up at 0300 before.

But the first time was rough, always get up at your desired time, no matter what time you went to bed, eventually you'll be forced, and will, go to bed early from exhaustion.

And I read your thing about you turning off your alarm and going back to bed. Bitch-made stuff. Fucking plug your alarm to metal music that shakes the walls, or the nuclear siren alarm noise on full blast, wake up and take a hit of smelling salts first thing. Get up and do burpees. Fucking jumpstart your engine in the morning, you'll not go back to bed.

And by bedtime, you'll he big epee.

Seconding this. I briefly experienced insomnia when I was a teen, probably from hormones. Beyond that I have always found it extremely easy to go to sleep. If anything it becomes increasingly impossible NOT to sleep, blue light screentime be damned. All these anons telling you this that and the other, calling you fatty or whatever, are giving you mere armchair speculation. Unless you are actually obese with sleep apnea, have a preposterous amount of stress in your daily life, or have scarred your brain with medication, then if you really cannot get to sleep, the problem is YOU. Some sort of hormonal imbalance that needs correction with medication, just like how it's super easy for me to sleep, likely because of an innate hormonal balance.
I hate recommending resorting to medicine if it isn't necessary, but for you it sounds like it is since it's messing up your social and professional prospects

>quitting coffee for 3 months and then just consuming it sparingly and ONLY in the early morning
>Waking up and going to bed at the same time every day
These things did wonders for me, especially the second one, i went to sleeping 6.5 hours MAX, to sleeping at least 7.5 consistently

if the basic shit is not working for you stop being retarded and go see a doctor you might have an actual condition

I have no fucking problem going to sleep, I’m tired and I fall asleep within 15 minutes.

However, I wake up exactly 4 hours later, take a piss and then can’t go back to sleep and so I just lie there awake until it’s a reasonable ish time to get up and start drinking coffee.

I don’t think having to piss is really what wakes me up, it’s just that once I’m awake I realize I could take a piss, even if it’s not much. I have tried dehydrating myself before bed, but it’s really not what’s waking me up I don’t think, it’s just the end of my sleep cycle and then once I’m awake I don’t get another sleep cycle

Again, manual labor job, training, eating healthy, comfy bed, dark room,

Once I wake I feel kinda like a burst of thoughts about random stuff and like cortisol and adrenaline

I don’t nap, I always get up (before my alarm, sometimes multiple hours before )

No bro I am also from the UK. I know plenty of people that have had sleep studies with the NHS.

Not being able to sleep and being fatigued all the time will kill you eventually. Youll likely lose as much years of life as a smoker or alcohol addict. They will treat you seriously if you emphasise you cant fucking sleep

Go to the doctors. Tell them about your problems with sleep and its ruining your health and life. Ask for a full panel blood test first and then if they find no issue you will eventually get to a sleep study. Do it for your own sake anon, stop putting it off, dont be defeatist, push for your health. They will listen to you
