Is swimming a good exercise?
Im thinking about going to an olympic pool 3 times a week.
Is it just cardio or do I get muscles too while swimming?
I plan to combine it with gym anyway, 3 days pool, 3 days gym 1 day rest.
Is that good? And what type of exercises should I do in the gym to complement it better?

its the best cardio there is because the buoyancy makes it low impact on your joints

in my opinion its not a good exercise on its own. If you're a DYEl with a hunchback from gaming or office work, my experience was that it did not improve my posture. I think that can only be fixed with targeted exercise.

Also the pool chemicals really fucked up my skin when I swam that much. I always had dry skin. and there was always at least a bit of poolwater in my ears. I gave up in the end.

gave up in favour of regular workouts* My ears were having infections a lot.

also idk where you live, but a lot of pools tend to have social programs for "urban youth". and that was an issue just fucking ungovernable children running around doing their bullsiht. so make sure you're going somewhere that doesn't have that, as it's pretty common.

Swimming is the greatest form of cardio, after that comes cycling and then running.
You will not get ripped from swimming.
In the end, everyone wants to be a butterfly swimmer, but very few become one (same as getting a six pack).

In my experience swimming has no impact on my recovery whatsoever. For this reason it's the perfect form of cardio to supplement lifting.
It also helped with my shoulder injury.

Been considering swimming, but I have bad acne and excessive sebum ptoduction that makes my hair greasy and skin waxy all the time. It's so severe I lived to become a 35 year old virgin with no education or job history because my appearance influences people's impression of me, so every interaction is an exhausting ordeal of overly polite clown dancing to dismantle the initial ick.

I wouldn't want me in a public pool if I were someone else.

But I have bad osteoporosis after embracing anorexia and bulimia nervosa to cope with my unpleasant life circumstances. Broke me ass rooning. Running's 7g right onto an awkward heel strike (I can't for the life of me run properly without feeling like I'm doing an impression of a dainty velociraptor). Sacral stress fracture. The physical therapist recommended swimming.

No impact is a double edged sword. It's good for the joints, but it's bad for bone density. Bones are a lot like muscles in that they need stimuli to stay dense. Same reason why astronauts lose both muscle and bone density after spending a lot of time without gravity. Without it, you run an increased risk of osteoporosis into old age, and believe me you don't want it, a broken hip from a light fall can be a game over.

I think jumping rope is actually the ideal cardio, because it has decent impact on bones, but only moderate effect on joints.

>Is swimming a good exercise?
yes
just look at (semi) professional swimmers

>Is it just cardio or do I get muscles too while swimming?
beyond a certain point, mostly cardio
but you get quite a bit of "baseline" muscles

>3 days pool, 3 days gym 1 day rest.
depends on how long you want to swim
probably would it cut down to 2x/week though if you plan on spending more than 30min in the pool

>Will I get ripped just by swimming?
no
but if you're dyel you still gain lots of muscle

I live directly at a lake and near the coast and still swim at a pool
it's too cold for more than a quick dip 8/12 months
and swimming in neoprene sucks (for surfing it's alright)

cold lake has another big advantage though
absolutely godly to jump in there after Sauna

retarded take
you don't swim for 24h
you're in the water for 1-2h max

How much should I pay for going to a swimming pool?
The only one I found (olympic pool) charges 80 a month, plus 10 for parking. I can use it 1 hour a day.

depends on the country

my city owned pool in Germany is at 7,50€/2h,
with additional 20% discount if I buy 500€ in credits (which I do)
so 48€-54€/month for 8-9 entries

>parking
just take your bike, it's free and counts as warmup

Im afraid to bike in the street next to the cars, and i think you are not allowed to use it on the sidewalk
