I think a lot of the “I eat clean” cope is people buying into health foods marketing, ite est the purpose of health marketing isn’t to convince people a food is healthy, it’s to allow fatties to create a new story about themselves to feel better.
E.g. eating a massive bowl of special K is eating “clean” to these people because it’s been marketed as a health food. And they can pretend they are healthier than they are because they have one of those obnoxiously large water bottles with lines down the side of like “10:00AM, keep going!”. And they got the grilled chicken sandwich instead of the fried chicken sandwich at chick fil a (of course with a side of mac and cheese and sweet tea). Even something like a matcha drink from Starbucks can be justified as healthy to these people because it’s the color green. They eat protein bars as a snack for heavens sake! (220kcal each, but it’s high in protein, so it’s healthy, right?)
Their feet hurt, their back hurts, their knees hurt, but it can’t possible be their weight—they workout regularly and are active! (They take their dog on a 1 mile walk every other week or so)
The saddest part is it would take VERY little effort for these people to start dropping weight rapidly. A modicum of willpower, yes, but just a couple of adjustments in their habits could have them losing 1lb a week or more.
