Do you use your uni gym or have any notable experiences or stories about using one. What are the pros and cons of using it over any other gym

>Pros
Only for the athletes

I used mine back in the day. This is roughly 8 years ago so bare that in mind.

>Clean environment, respectful staff and students
>Clean racks and plenty free weights, machines
>Had an upstairs in-door track that kept clean.
>Daily access
>Included in tuition cost or very cheap compared compared to other locations.
Last point alone is why you need to use it. Get as much value as you can while in Uni, Anon.
Anonymous No.76464403 >>76464625
>pros
cheap or free
typically no old guys
empty during holidays and summer
you're already going to school so adding a stop to the gym is convenient
>cons
a lot of bros doing bro lifts
will almost always be crowded during the semester

>stories/experiences
im in grad school now so i mainly use the gym for racquetball with friends in my program
in undergrad i did a lot of training at the campus gym, it was pretty nice

I met my first gf (a black woman) by going to my uni gym and buying a drink whenever she worked the front desk, then I talked to this 5'2 100lb muslim girl who worked there.

>pros
Tons of hot young women, you will not find this in any other gym.
Really easy to be the biggest/strongest guy there most college guys are skinny and don’t take steroids so if you’ve been lifting for awhile you mog everyone there
Tons of equipment
Equipment that is taken care of and replaced often
Easy way to make friends
Cool climbing wall with lots of hot climbing girls
Hardly anyone overweight
Clean
Nice bathrooms
Have chalk dispensers
>cons
Between 5-7pm you’ll have to wait in line for equipment but that’s any gym
They won’t let you carry around a gym bag
They will make you deadlift in shoes
Distracting amount of young hot women
If you bench a lot you may not be able to find a spotter that can spot you

This one old guy kept coming to the uni gym at the same time everyday, would sit around and look at the women, while wearing a tank top lmao

When I was in college 15 years ago:
>Free, students-only
>No international students went in there, ever.
>Gym was grimy and dirty, in a good way.
>Mismatched, very old weights in various states of rust
>Smelled like chlorine and motor oil
>No women there ever because it was grimy
>Gym would have time blocked off in the morning just for sports teams or classes
>Afternoons full of skinny and fat guys just fucking around on equipment
>Evenings / late night full of student powershitters and the serious regulars. Some would stay until 2AM/3AM (24 hour access)
>Some of the serious lifters would sell steroids and such in the bathroom there
>My morbidly obese weed man would hang out there every night on the treadmill walking. Very convenient to buy weed and work out at the same place.
Its probably not the same at all at any college. This type of gym culture in general is dead/dying.

I have fond memories of my university gym. I almost miss being a totally clueless beginner.
>the Indian guy who would squat in jeans and flip flops
>the massive 60 year old black guy who would help cluelesss people like me, turned out he was a custodian who was a former competition bodybuilder
>the fat fuck who only trained arms and wore the same goku tank top every day

It would always be closed off to everyone else but the sports teams but whenever it was avaliable to anyone else there would be so many people there it would be impossible to use anything

I was a 5 day a week in-between and after classes sort (I am an introvert)
The good leg day equipment was always trashed and/or in rough shape. The leg press had some sort of weird issue where one side had more resistance than the other (I tested), Leg curl and Extension machines broke because of some jackass football players.
All the older prof's would time their cardio to align with when the cheer squad's practice so they could stare out the window at them.
They had these weird custom half racks that were overbuilt, but the inside dimensions were more cramped than normal for half racks, I smashed my knee into the posts on it every other day.
You'll get a lot of douche DYEL sorts coming in, occupying space, not doing anything.
If you've got a moderate amount of muscle mass, aren't fat but not lean, you'll also have ugly ethnic women ask you to spot them, then have them get angry at you because you didn't flirt with them

oh, and the black kids would get caught stealing equipment during the handful of breaks we had.
hope that helps!

Just learn to fight in case some frat queers try to bully you off the bench, if they insist on no working in just do things to them that'd start a fight and get them arrested so you can ruin their life.

Even d1 they're just who's willing to do steroids, if they try to steal your gains just start a fight they'll be confident. Like what if you did that to them they'd threaten you because they belong in a corn field but their parents want a mansion.

really depends a lot on the uni
on my euro uni

pro
>cheap
>enough weights and plates for a gym 10x the size (some older as my parents though)
>open 24/7 (with access card)
>nice bathrooms, 2 saunas with cold plunge pool
>only students, no old people
>great AC (rare for Germany), great heating (Uni Server center just blast heat everywhere in winter on campus, so heat with open windows)

contra
>like 5min application window at the beginning of the semester to get access (first come first serve)
>incredible crowded anyway
>old machines, regularly broken (until some students volunteer to fix it)

best stories are related to the last point
most of the machines are really frankenstein ones
last semester I came in an one guy randomly welded stuff on one of the cable machines
or weird electronics, like colored LEDs that fucking blink when you use the full motion

oh forgot the best story

we have a relatively big robotics department
and it's pretty normal to see some humanoid, quadruped or other unshapely robots walking / driving around campus
but a few weeks ago
came into the gym
and the big humanoid was walking and "jumping" around the benches with weights in his hands

apparently they haven't had any variable weights in their lab, so just went to the uni gym
was funny as hell to look at

i swear i was one of five guys who ever overhead pressed at my uni's gym. once i hit lmao1pl8 OHP (a lot of kid's benches) people started looking at me like i was a demon
in general it was a bunch of broccoli heads and lazy freshman girls going for attention. usually got better as people quit midway through the semester
weekend nights were the chillest, i showed up and lifted in cosplay after anime convention and the regulars got a kick out of it

unless your university gym is a total piece of shit, you should definitely use it, since it is included in tuition. if you're a shy guy, it is a great way to get out of your shell -- maybe you will see that cute foid from your class and you will have the chance to talk to her. busy hours are pretty much the same as any other gym, the early evening it will probably be pretty packed, but if you have a gap in your class schedule during the day, you can probably get in there. otherwise later in the evening, like after 8 pm, it probably won't be too crowded. it can't hurt to check it out, at least. do it OP.

>Why is air conditioning so rare in Europe
wasn't needed in the past (in central / northern Europe, southern Europe has AC everywhere)

before the 2000s there were barely any days here above 30°C (86F) in summer, let alone hot nights above 20°C, which were like a once in a decade heat wave thing
so it always cooled down during nights and with good insulation (aka thick stone walls) it kept cool throughout the day

now climate change is happening
and we have like a full month of that unbearable heat every summer

also some superstitions
people in Germany think you get sick from ACs

>>76468778
not really
grid is fine

and today even more so
people who build new with AC also put solar on their roof
which give free energy in summer used for AC and doesn't need grid energy

I started lifting recently, at the beginning of the summer at my uni gym, as it's the best there is near me, and I just have this dreading fucking anxiety that the moment school starts and all the fucking freshmen and athletes and foids will start packing in there on day 1 to do their gym routine that inevitably at least 70% will quit after a few weeks, I won't be able to use it really. It'll probably just be too fucking packed. They already to fucking tours of 30 freshmen coming next year around the campus, and you can see the look on their faces as they're brought to the gym, just pure fucking 'I know I'll see your fat ass here in September' expressions.

I seriously get bad anxiety over this. How am I supposed to continue my routine when the gym is fucked filled with people? Seriously thinking of just buying a bench and some dumbbells doing everything with those. Fuck. It keeps me awake at night. I don't want to lose gains because retards want to start hitting the gym and filling it up (only 2 rear delt/pec machines by the way)

My university gym was amazing but it was so small that if you weren't in there at the crack of dawn, your chance of using any of the racks, benches or machines was 0%.
Which I did do but it had a domino effect on my commitment to school and work. Some days I would leave my house at 3 am to get to the school gym at 5 am, try to wait for my 8 AM lecture but be so tired that I fall asleep in the library and miss class
