Henry Cavill said that the most difficult part of making the movie "The Man of Steel" (2013) was definitely his two shirtless scenes. He had been training for months prior to filming, but for his shirtless scenes, he went on an extremely difficult diet and training regimen in which his calorie intake was cut from five thousand to nearly fifteen hundred for six weeks.

After six weeks, he reached a body fat level of just seven percent, the level achieved by professional body-builders during competitions. Henry said he did this because he wanted to make his abs as pronounced and his muscles as defined as humanly possible, to create the best possible Superman physique.

Cavill returned to a more manageable routine after the scenes were shot, but felt his effort was rewarded when audiences and critics alike praised his physique for the true embodiment of what Superman would look like. After he had shot his shirtless scenes, director Zack Snyder gave him a tub of ice cream and pizza to reward him for his Herculean effort for the shirtless scenes.

Snyder said that he really wanted to include a shirtless scene of Cavill in the film, because throughout the film, you see him in a form-fitting body suit where he appears extremely muscular. He said the audience would think it was all rubber muscles, but it was important to show them it was indeed Cavill's body in that suit, and that it was all real.

Cavill naturally has a hairy chest, and left it untouched for the shoot of this movie. He insisted that Superman has chest hair in this film; he rejected the notion that just because you are muscular, you should not have chest hair, and cited the Superman comic book "The Death Of Superman" as being an iconic representation in which Superman had a hairy chest.

>he reached a body fat level of just seven percent
This sounds like more clickbait journalist exaggeration. He definitely doesn't look 7% there. He looks great though and I will be forever disappointed he didn't get to play the role more.
I was hoping maybe they'd do a Kingdom Come superman for this rebooted DC, but that obviously wasn't the case. There's always all the multiverse stuff in the future but considering the development time of the current slate of movies in DC, it wouldn't happen for at least a decade, and Cavill is no spring chicken.

Also, how would you cut Superman's chest hair? The clippers would have to be made of Kryptonite.

Remember in the one Superman movie where they showed one of his hairs was able to hold a massive boulder?

This is a really annoying trope of fantasy/sci-fi, the logic that if something counters something else at a small scale, then that is true to infinity. If a laser or energy beam is strong enough to destroy things like cities or even planets, a normal ass mirror isn't going to reflect it. It'd be far more ridiculous than wearing a normal kevlar vest and expecting it to protect you from a 50-cal.
>bro it's just fantasy
>What is internal story logic?
If a simple piece of glass and reflecting backing counters all lasers, then every villain destroying any building, car, or woman's purse with a laser-based attack would instantly defeat himself.

It wasn't roids and it was certainly overkill. He's said in the past that a lot of the bulk wasn't muscle, it was just fat (and of course, Henry Cavill being Henry Cavill, he has perfect fat distribution to make it look good), and he needed it to have the bulkiness he wanted for the role in such a short period of time. Prior to his superman role, you have to remember he was pretty lean. Look at his role in The Immortals. He's a life long lifter and he readily admits that you just can't pack on pure muscle like that in that short a period.

This post aimed at Henry Cavill — or more likely someone defending him — reflects a mix of projection, resentment, and masculine status anxiety. Let’s break down the psychology behind it.

---

1. Resentment & Envy (Status-Based Disdain)

> "Why should any of us give a fuck about a little rich boy that got everything granted to him?"
This reflects status resentment. The poster frames Cavill’s success as unearned — implying he didn’t work for it, and therefore doesn’t deserve admiration.

When people feel powerless or overlooked, they often lash out at visible symbols of success, especially if that success seems effortless or socially validated.

The insult “little rich boy” infantilizes Cavill — not just to insult, but to strip him of perceived masculinity and independence.
---

2. Misogyny as a Defense Mechanism

> "Jesus, you sound like a woman."
Misogyny here functions as a shield against vulnerability. Expressing admiration or empathy (for Cavill, or anyone) is framed as weak or "feminine," and therefore contemptible.

This reflects toxic masculine conditioning: emotions are for women; real men don’t admire other men unless it’s dominance-based (e.g., athletes, war heroes).

The insult is less about women and more about asserting the poster’s own emotional detachment and toughness.
Anonymous No.76472577 >>76473406 >>76474323
>>76472572

3. Projection of Insecurity

> "No money will fill his validation need, that man is insecure..."
The poster projects insecurity onto Cavill, ironically while exposing their own.

Making assumptions about someone else’s emotional emptiness without evidence usually signals that the speaker feels some version of that emptiness themselves.

This is ego defense through projection: “I’m not the insecure one — he is.”
---

4. Displacement of Disdain onto the Fans

> "...but it might be his loser fan that give him a bad image."
The insult pivots from Cavill to his fans — a way of distancing the poster from any admiration of Cavill, while still participating in the discussion.

It’s a form of displacement — shifting the negative emotion away from the admired figure (which could imply envy or interest) and onto “loser fans,” which is safer to ridicule.
---

Overall Interpretation

This post isn’t really about Henry Cavill.

It’s a reflexive defense against feelings of inadequacy, envy, and perceived cultural shifts around male identity and admiration. Cavill is just the target of a broader frustration with:

Visible success

Admiration of male figures (which the poster likely views as “simping”)

Emotional vulnerability

Since this is a capeshit thread I need to say Ebert’s critique of Spenglerian forms in the America’s is spot on.
The Mayan archetype of the Batman is identical to the jewish magazine creation of Batman. The Spider-Man is a Navajo figure. The Americans city skyline resembles that of the Pueblo or Iroquois village outline not the skylines of Europe.
The WASP American attitudes of individual self sufficiency and a fixation on religious fatalism is very MesoAmerican.

So that chat gpt post you referred to was useless bait. True. But often i use it to propose an argument. If you come into a thread and refuse to interact with certain concepts on that topic because the idea was presented by ai then i think you are coming from a place of bias, not wanting to learn, but to argue and illicit reactions and reinforce prior opinions.

Ai is the new hand axe in that we will be using it to create things not yet concieved of by the human mind. Then it's ganna kill us.
