Stacks from Altered Carbon
You can store your consciousness in a device known as a “stack” that is placed inside a body, also known as a “sleeve”. If that sleeve dies, you can simply transfer your stack into a new body via a process known as “resleeving”, essentially providing you pseudo-immortality.

Do you think we can achieve something like this in our lifetimes?

I've seen this series already it's garbage
>lol lmao dude your grandma got resleeved in the body of a big nigger
retarded soiboi nonsense anyone who dreams of the future "technological utopia" humans will live in is a pathetic retard, nothing good will come from technology, Ted was unironically right it just takes time to realize

Was he right though. I'd rather live an old world life than this but I imagine we could do even better than that if it weren't for jews.

No. We have no idea how consciousness works. Your thoughts and traits don't have a "location" in the brain. The mind works like a hologram, its all about frequencies of waves and interference patterns.

In an old world life you could do whatever the fuck you wanted, want to rape a teenage girl? Go ahead it's literally the natural way of things, but you need to earn it the men in her life won't just sit idle.

What did society bring to the table? You have security and food now you can live to 60 but can't do what you want.
Now add technology you can now live to 100 and be miserable and in 0 control the entire fucking time.

OUR lifetimes? No. Humanity as a species` lifetime? No, because consciousness is an emergent byproduct of complex biological systems.

Books were more fun. First season was tolerably based on the book, but second season they just wandered off in their own direction and added a bunch of diversity for diversity's sake. The diversity thing usually doesnt bother me, but fuck did they fuck it up.

The books touch on the idea that just because your memories go on, that doesn't mean you do. Kind of useless to the individual desu.

I just started watching the first season last night. I had no idea what it was about, only that it was pretty well-received. Halfway through the first episode I knew there must be some trans-related drama on the Internet because the body-switching technology is wish fulfillment of the highest order. And I was right. The author was canceled, then banned from pre-Musk Twitter because he had the temerity to agree with Rowling that a man is not a woman.

That’s too simplistic a worldview. Rich doesn’t mean bad, no matter how much reddit tries to tell you it does. That being said the show does offer what I’d consider a fairly realistic possibility of what happens to peoples values when you start viewing bodies as skin-sleeves

Hard maybe, depends on what we find out about consciousness in the next few decades. If consciousness is streamed rather than stored locally you might only need a receiver.

Ted was unoriginal and his writing was jumbled and full on nonsequitors and seething nonsense and he couldnt even come up with a solution and then bombed innocent people to gain attention to his writings which did not have anything useful in it.

Yeah what I'm saying is that we can easily have the sturdy houses, motorized carriages, cold boxes of 30,000 calories, and the 45 caliber pedophilia cure, and then like not slave away for jews and create giant plastic trash islands in the ocean. It's not the tech, it's us.

Wrong, this outcome was basically guaranteed by the structure of the reality itself. Nice things are utterly unnatural. The arc of the moral universe tends towards increasingly sophisticated violence.
Might as well petition matter and antimatter to not annihilate each other.

This is another bait and switch series, unfortunately. Strong first season followed by absolute bullshit. My theory is that nobody cares about a show in its first season because nobody is sure what people are actually going to like. Once enough people like it for a second season "they" take notice and send over experts to make sure that further seasons are rendered unwatchable.

As for uploading consciousness, it's an interesting discussion. We spend a great deal of our lives unconscious, so maybe we are breaking continuity every time we go to sleep, and each day we wake up a new person that believes the expierences stored in the memory to be their own.

Asimov's wife wrote a book about mind uploading that explicitly called it out as a different person with old memories, the original having died, so people ended up waiting until they were near death and then passing their memories on at death so their copy could continue their lives, and the copies were pretty happy to be alive and couldn't really tell the difference.

First season was great.
Second seasons was just Space Nigger shucking and jiving.
It was shit without the main actor from the first season and that beaner milf with the big tits.
