Do you care about your bodyfat level if you're just lifting for health?

I'm mindful of it, I'd like to get down to a lower bf % at some point, just to have more definition - but it's secondary to trying to get bigger generally.

I do because of its interplay with insulin regulation and I'm bordering on diabetic. Also knee and foot issues run in my family so trying to keep the total weight down.

Yes, optimal body fat percentages for hormonal output is slightly above looking cut, this is like 16%bf~

for health you don't need (or should) get to 8% but being below like 20% is definitely important

Yes. If I’m lifting for health, why would I have other behaviours that detract from my health? Why would I make running and climbing more difficult by carrying excess fat? Why would I fuck my hormones by carrying excess fat?

This, but lower body fat levels are also bad for hormones.
Any time I diet down to 10%, I have unpredictable morning wood, I like waking up fully erect so 12% is good for me.

Maybe if I got down to 10% at a glacial pace I would change my mind, largely agree with you

I'm close to hitting my goal of having abs, I was obese and made sure to lose weight very slowly while lifting so I'd get no loose skin. Once I have abs the goal will be to stay athletic. I'll eat intuitively and try to keep the abs
