Stroke recovery (and general rehab thread)
Hi guys. Recently my 70yo mother had a stroke and I was wondering if there were any guides or information that dealt with physical rehabilitation of stroke victims. Things like where to start depending on their condition, expectations both short and long term. Any anecdotal stories from any other Anons who've dealt with this before would be great and probably even stuff more geared toward elderly physical health in general.

No expert here. I advise you to educate yourself on her condition, it may come a time where you have to act as an advocate for your mom in the hospital. Talk to trusted medical professional about the treatment plans and get a second opinion. From what Ive learned strokes always leave traces, but its best to start speech and physical therapy asap. Also you will have to learn to be very patient, often times people who had strokes want to say something but cant get it out, which is very frustrating for them. My sincere condolences and a speedy recovery.

she needs to improve her cardiovascular health. encourage her to take walks and to join a yoga class to improve her range of motion and mobility. older people need to move and stretch and they are stubborn as fuck and won't do it without the threat of death looming over them.

Creatine at higher doses 10-20g daily, spread throughout the day, lions mane, unironically also pscylocibin mushrooms. Very low dose caffeine like 10mg should assist the compounds and make sure she hydrates. RSO medical cannabis oil is good for brain protective properties in cases of ischemic events. Fish oils may help as well. Bless.

It was right sided, so it was her left side that was weakened. But her left arm has improved to the point of being back to normal, its just that she can't stand for very long and needs 2 people to help her walk around. Also she has short term memory loss, periods of absentmindedness, trouble with comprehension and following commands. She has bad eyesight and hearing as well, but that was before the stroke.

Sounds dumb but crossword puzzles keep the brain sharp

Eh, she's better off playing chess or writing novels or something. Crossword puzzles are okay, but a lot of the ones they make for the past few decades (thanks to the internet) are just stupid trivia games they Googled up. You either know who won the bronze in shotput in 1982 or you don't. No brainpower required.

Yeah that seems like a good idea, she used to do a lot of crossword puzzles when I was younger. They've given her some paper and coloured pencils at the hospital as just some rudimentary art supplies too.

Get her to start doing math all over again start like a kindergartener and progress until it gets extremely difficult for her and have her continue to struggle through that as well. They've done studies that the way the brain fires during math solving is so much better than puzzles and reading. Best of luck to her

Semax, cortexin, cerebrolysin, nitric oxide, red light therapy, grounding, look into how carbs are more effective than statins at lowering LDL, learn that LDL is only there to fix the cells (ie chronic body inflammation increases LDL, alongside keto faggotry)

Also tb500 and bcp157
