No, it is not. It's better than sitting down all the time though and if you're too fat to run without damaging your joints it's a decent place to start.

it is good cardio, like if you do a 3 day hiking trip then yeah you'll burn a lot of calories. trouble is, for regular cardio fitness, it just takes up so much more time. you burn the same kcals in 10 minutes of running as you do in like an hour of walking, so it's just not optimal for most people

Great aerobic cardio, with virtually no anaerobic effects. If you walk (or even better, ruck) regularly, you'll be able to mog national level endurance athletes during a hike, but you'll still be out of breath after a short sprint.

Walking sucks as cardio, unless you're very unfit, you have to walk so fast that you will look silly and it will fill unnatural. Fit people who choose walking do so to avoid discomfort and avoiding discomfort makes it not cardio but just a calorie burner if that's what you want but even then you could just do cardio and more calories even faster.

Walking sucks as cardio, unless you're very unfit, you have to walk so fast that you will look silly and it will feel unnatural. Fit people who choose walking do so to avoid discomfort and avoiding discomfort makes it not cardio but rather just a calorie burner (go ahead if that's what you want) but even then you could just do cardio and burn more calories at a faster pace.

I am fortunate to have some big hills to walk, which definitely gets my heart rate up, although it is obviously not comparable to sprinting or even moderately-paced running. If you live near any big hills, I suggest you take advantage of them.

hiking is good cardio you'll burn atleast 500 calories an hour and its very sustainable so you can end up burning a pound a day relatively easily. I lost 20 pounds hiking for a month

Walking can save your cut, no joke. The downside is it can take a good chunk of your day, but if you have a good excuse to walk or you turn it into a social activity, it beats any other cardio for sustained weight loss

i used to spam incline walks on the treadmill, as for walking around outside, probably not intense enough (assuming youre trying to lose weight). Do something that will make you sweat and get your heart pumping.

incline treadmill. 15 degrees at 3.4kmh or 2.1mph burns 100 cal in 10 minutes. its a manageable, light pace and easy on spine and knees. also great for calves, glutes and core.

I've found that with an incline treadmill at 18%, I can get my hear rate into the "cardio zone," even when walking at what be a relatively slow pace on level terrain. Regular walking, it's harder to get my heart rate up, but you can always try speed walking.

Walking is the best, most sustainable cardio, you can do it for 3 to 4 hours every day if you work up to it, and you'll never risk injury. Makes cuts simple, you get fresh air, sunshine and a break from electronics & media.

If you are overweight, walk every evening until you're not, simple as.

It's apparently the best type of cardio if all you're aiming to do is burn fat. Other forms of cardio that induces more stress will burn carbs instead of fat. Reportedly.
