If I do the first part of my workout, stop for a few hours to do errands then come back and finish the workout, have I missed out on potential gains by taking such a big break that I didn’t push my muscles as much as I otherwise would have? Or does it not matter because I did the same amount of lifting either way?

Prob won't matter in the long run.
>do compounds in the mornings before work
>isolations and cables late at night after work
I did this sometimes

You can lift more spreading it out

I'd say given that you train with sufficient effort and progress your lifts as normal you should be good. It would make more sense to do this type of workout with antagonistic muscle groups.
So for example: Upper day
>Back/pull/etc.
>Chest/push/etc.
I'd also make sure you are eating enough between workouts, recovery will be important here.

I also see the merit in doing something like this.

who gives a fuck you fucking nerd shit. Stop being a loser trying to min max. I like to go in my back yard with some dumbbells. Do curls till I'm wheezing then jump into the pool and let the sun kiss my balls. Then hop out and do a set of overhead press. Drink a coke with lime. Do a set of lateral raises. Hop back in the pool. Go jerk off. Go back outside and do curls again cause I lost my bicep pump at this point. ONCE YOU FIND THIS ENERGY AND POWER YOU WILL KNOW THE WAY
