Genuinely how do I avoid ending up with this body type? They all look like they lift to a degree and are probably somewhat fit in a cardiovascular sense, but they just look so... shit, and average.
They all have that long dropped shoulders look, not swole, just very very moderately muscular, they look to have show muscles, like they only do machines and are part of a running club.

I do find this is what 99% of gym fags look like though, and if I cut now I worry I will also look like this...

You either have to commit to being super lean or super big (or roid and do both). If you tip toe around the middle trying to be lean but not too lean so you can keep building strength, but not trying to go all in on building muscle at the cost of leanness, you'll just end up looking like these guys.

The two that are facing the camera have their stomachs poking out a bit, so there's that. But I think most of it is fashion: they all have the same haircut and it's not flattering except maybe for Chaddington on the left there. i doubt they even do that. they'd be the typically gym at headquarters 6 days a week type, but start with a run on the tready for 5-10 or so minutes to warm up then use the machines only. perhaps far left does some curls with free weights. then they'd warm down on the bike or elliptical.

No, but the "machine build" still exists and it comes from the normies who just use machines with zero intensity. Machines are good when you use them to push to failure with confidence, which you cant do with free weights, but they are bad when used with 0 ROM, abusing momentum and noodling around nowhere close to failure. Normies like doing the latter because it feels to them like they did something without putting in the effort

Leg extensions and leg curls hit all the muscles they're meant to hit. i've heard that if you do squats you (largerly) miss a certain part of your quads and with rdl's you miss a certain part of your hamstrings which these machines can fix. So in a way for a bodybuilder if he HAD TO choose between one or the other machines would be more optimal.

This is pretty standard off-duty military fashion in special ops and intel circles. The only thing really missing is tattoos. Feds (law enforcement primarily) recruit heavily from those pools. The fitness standards are all pretty similar too, which is why they all look so similar.

My guess is FBI agents recruited primarily from Army Rangers.

Some of it is genetics or bad ppsture, but they look like they have really inconsistent plans and only focus on isolation exercises.
The center-right guy has nice forearms but very mid arms and upper body. Middle guy clearly does not care about his neck or shoulders at all. Center-left is the typical dad-who-let-himself-go look. Guy on the right either only trains his arms or has shit chest genetics.
Guy on the left is the only one who looks all around good but not amazing, probably a calisthenics guy because they tend to work a lot of different muscles with few exercises.
This is one of the benefits of calisthenics vs. gymbro weight lifting. I was very skinny starting out but made me get into shape quite quickly.
I only do pull ups, push ups/dips and situps and I've gotten a lot of compliments on my overall shape even though none of my individual muscles are anything special. Compound exercises are great once you master the form.
