I feel like the most common mistake that you see people make is lunging out way too far. despite the name of the exercise, it isn't about maximizing the length of your lunge extension. you want your torso to be moving basically straight down and then straight back up. this will also help prevent balance issues when you get the hang of it. also, if you're doing walking lunges, make sure you don't cheat yourself by starting the next rep on the way up, if that makes sense. if you have to reset your feet as you switch between legs, do that.
