Choosing gyms
LA fitness or 24 hr fitness?
LA fitness is like an 8 min drive
24hr fitness is like 15. Maybe 20.
The LA fitness by me opens at 4:30am

I am a super introvert. I hate being around crowded areas so Ideally I work out from about the window of 1am to 5am.
If I choose LA fitness, I only have 1.5hrs max because by 6am people come in.

Is it worth driving more? That's like the only thing turning me off. Mileage adds up, but I'd basically have the entire gym to myself at the 24hr one since I doubt the window I go in would have many people. Maybe like 5-20 max I'd imagine.
I'm autistic as fuck, man. I can't be around people without feeling fucked up.

I'm big on machines btw. But I assume both have what you'd need

Sounds like the 24hr fitness is better for you, but I’d suggest you do a tour of both gyms. Most chain gyms are franchised, and the equipment varies greatly from one location to another. For instance, the LA near me doesn’t have nearly that big of a weight area, certainly not that many racks. Generally, I’d expect slightly better equipment at the LA.

You sound like a perfect candidate for a home gym.

I have a home gym, but it's highly limited. I max out to failure WAY easier with actual machines. Plus I went to the gym with my aunt and went insane. So long story short I can't push my limit unless I'm in that kind of environment

Cope. You're likely intimidated by free weight , because there's no shot you cant max out just as easy with plates.

I don't like them because what gets me to stop is usually the pain from the palm area from gripping the weights.

Look. It's not the same. It's much easier to target specific parts with machines. For example crunches. I was doing 300lb crunches. I can't do that at home

You are a stupid fucking retard if you think 300lb crunches can be replicated with dumbbells lmfao.

Explain, retard. Replicate 300lb crunches with a home gym.
Also for lats, lat machine is better than pullups.
It's also FAR more convenient to do drop sets with pins instead of manually changing the dumbbells.
Machines are better at isolating. Simple as that.

idk man I used to wageslave in Seattle with a 1.5 hr and 3 hr(return) commute, your two times are the same to me so just fill up your pre workout and hop in the car. I'd go 24h but the branches are pretty varied so make sure yours isn't a rapehole

basically the same gym. 24 hour fitness used to be cheaper then LA fitness.
but LA fitness has the bullshit you'll never use like the sauna.
LA fitness has slightly richer customers but end up being older then 24 hour fitness.
and 24 hour fitness is always open. LA fitness sometimes the guy doesn't show up to open at 5AM. had it happen three times over the last 12 months. fortunately there are more LA fitness locations then 24 hour fitness so when they don't open you just burn another 15 minutes driving to a different one.

Every LA fitness I’ve been to has dogshit equipment. No decent racks. All the barbells have insane flexure on them. Super crowded.

Go to the gyms and ask for a free week trial, or literally just pay for a day pass. I prefer the latter because the catch to the "free trial" is they sit down and talk to you and try to sell you a membership.

Start with one gym for a week. Then do the other for a week.
Go at the times you plan to regularly go and see which one you like more.

some 24 hr fitness actually operates 24/7.. Even the most packed 24 hr fitness in the most expensive area in LA has literally no ppl after 12 AM.

As for machines, both are no good imo. Non-renovated older 24 hr fitness locations still have LF and hammer strength machines around, but those are so old. out of balance and need to be greased. Newly renovated locations have a mix of matrix and hoist machines. A lot of ppl seem to be content with these. LA fitness is similar to the older 24 hour fitness.

If you want to try the best machines, find gyms that have panatta, prime, hammer strength, cybex, arsenal, atlantis, gym80, nautilus or even newtech. but these gyms will probably cost you $150-200+ a month and close early daily.

>free trial
Idk about 24hr fitness, but beware doing the free trial at LA. They have a really antiquated sales model where you will be forced to sit down and create a profile with the sales guy before you can even go on a tour. Said sales guy will bother you every single day from that point until you tell them you joined another gym or something.
>>76510188
>matrix and hoist
Seems like all the big chain gyms have these with maybe a little bit of hammer strength here and there, depending. Personal opinion: they suck, but better than nothing or typical home gym shit quality.

Good luck finding panatta in a public gym, but I agree on the rest. Usually these are locally owned gyms where the owners have gone out of their ways to select all the pieces they want, whereas at corporate chains they just buy a package of equipment. I think for a really high quality gym, it’s probably worth $70-$200 a month, depending on just how good it is and how serious you are. Personally, I’ve got a home gym and find myself wanting leg machines more and more.
