I don't think you have a lot of options other than just trying to ask her out at work. A cold open of flat out asking a girl out generally doesn't work. Often times you have to do borderline stalker behavior to set things up for success. You need to chat them up at least once with a decent conversation. For example, there was this girl at work that I wanted to ask out, be she worked in a completely different department and we had very little interaction. I happened to pass by her in the hallway having the tail end of a conversation with some other dude about a topic I was into, so I chatted her up for a minute. I didn't think much of her beforehand, she was just average looking. Then a week later we happened to be in the break room at the same time and had another great 10 minute chat. That's when I took a liking to her, and afterwards I thought she'd be cool to ask out. But then I didn't happen to run into her again for weeks. So I had to start trying to figure out her schedule to have another "fortuitous" run in again. So after another 2 weeks that happened, chatted her up again and asked her out and she said yes. If I had just walked over to her department that I have zero reason to ever visit and just try and strike up a convo there and/or ask her out it would be creepy and awkward as fuck and I'd fully expect her to say no.
