A lot of programs feature rep schemes such as "3*8"
In practise wouldn't it be better to perform: 9,8,7 reps instead of 8,8,8 so that the volume is the same but the difficulty is slightly more constant ?

It's okay to do 9,8,7, but never do 7-8-9
That's how six became afraid of 7

most people that know what the fuck they're talking about give a rep range of 6-8 or 10-12 and tell you to increase weight when if you can reach the top on your last set

not really, in the hepburn method you add one rep every workout but on the LAST set.

I used to do 4 sets for everything using 12/10/8/6 I'd increase the weight everytime if the reps were meet, nowadays I'm doing 12/10/8 and 3 sets for everything but upping the intensity

Seriously though, what do you do in that case?
If the weight brings you to failure then sticking with it for one more workout would still stimualte your muscles, right?

yes you can overload by doing more reps and that might be a better alternative when the weights are getting heavy. usually you stay in 2 RIR and don't go to failure too

You should be conservative for your next jump or eat more in preparation. You could also stick to the same weight but make sure its easier next time, otherwise you just didnt progress.

that's the same volume if done with the same load

Hepburn is :
>0
8*2
>1
7*2 3
>3
6*2 2*3
>…
>7
8*3
>back to 0 with more weight

why does every pencilneck nowadays use rir? People got jacked and strong without it in the past just fine. It doesn't do anything useful beyond making something more complicated than it should be.

yeah 2rir is just "close to failure" you can do it by feel
