Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.

I have goyslop in my house yes. I only binge eat it if it's new and I haven't had it before. But I noticed if I go for a longer time than normal I will binge eat way more even on stuff that is not new. I am about 700 over my TDEE for today. Usually it will go up to 1400 over on new food
I wouldn't say I am there yet though

I barely do any exercise, I just take a walk every night for about an hour and 30 mins. My ultimate goal is to go back to my pre-pandemic weight (75kg) by December. I'm gonna go to the gym and hit the weights eventually but right now I can't due to time constraints from work.
I'm on my mid 30s by the way and being fat has been putting constraints on me so I really want to lose weight. I just want to know if my goals are realistic or not.

It's impossible to say, honestly. It depends how good you are at starving yourself and exercising.
But, it's a pretty large amount of weight to lose in a relatively little time, but it's something people have done, and you can do it too.
And if you don't make it, you've only gotta lose 10kg rather than being where you are now and trying to lose 36kg, and that's better.
Don't focus too much on goals, focus on progress, it's easy to burn out for missing a goal, hard to miss burn out on making progress.

Well I have done a lot of self experimentation on this subject. What you have is a conflict between the frontal lobe of your brain, which has all these logical ideas, and your lower brain, which does not give a fuck about all those plans.
I set out on a grand journey which I believed would end in complete dictatorship by my frontal lobe. I sought to use every available bit of psychological understanding to produce this control of the lower mind, "the lizard" as I started to refer to it as. I had some good ideas and I put them into practice. I did produce some results. I was able to quit using zyns, start sleeping and waking at normal hours, keep a clean room, etc. But other than that my life didn't really improve much. See the lizard gets more and more angry the longer it is denied. It is older and stronger than the frontal lobe and it is within the lizard that your true spirit resides.
And now I am completely going in the opposite direction. I am trying to do the minimum viable amount of thinking. I am trying to shift my focus to external matters at all times rather than maintaining the autistic inner focus. I think thats probably what you need to do as well. Stop being analytical. Embrace the retarded lizard inside of your brain. Focus on one day at a time instead of grand plans. Become free from the intellect that wants to turn you into a machine and instead follow the spirit inside of you.

if you are working out you need to also keep track of your waist measurement. The scale doesn't differentiate fat from muscle, but if you pair that with a waist measurement, you can know if you are losing fat or not

Pretty classic point of failure is to try to do too many things at once, too many changes to your regular lifestyle. If you try to change your regular routine too much at once it’s very easy for one little setback (work went 30 mins late, veg in the fridge went bad, you stubbed your toe, etc) to unravel everything, then you’re back to square 1.
General rule of thumb is it takes 2 weeks of consistency to build a habit. Best to start with food or alcohol. No more takeaway for 2 weeks- that means if you have a can of soup or crackers and cheese for dinner then so be it. Then move on to exercise, starting realistic. Then you can find new goals like no added sugar, wake up at 6 every day, bike 50km every day, things like that. This just becomes your new normal and you start disliking fast food and craving your exercise. We’re not just trying to lose fat, we’re trying to become the kind of person who doesn’t get fat.

i used this exact routine every other day when travelling for 2 months straight and actually made better gains then when i was at home using a real gym. you only need a pair of light dbs and can knock it out in 20 minutes if you push and superset the skullcrushers with curls.
for legs you can do sissy squats, nordics, rdls and lunges.

i take a multivitamin every morning and i keep a tub of proton powder at work. i work a physical job and when i'm hungry at the end of my shift i just drink a protein shake instead of eating so my body has plenty of protein to repair muscles while i sleep. when i wake up the hunger is almost always gone and i can delay breakfast for quite while. some days i eat right when i wake up to get my metabolism going, usually when i need to have extra energy to get stuff done or when i'm working.

it doesn't work and you just get weak. There is no high and you just get more depressed. Additionally, you screw up your chances for committing suicide later. One of my motivations to get fit enough was to be able to climb things, fight my way out of the phyc ward and generally be strong enough to do the classic methods. You aren't going to be able to drown yourself if you can't get 10 meters away from the shoreline. Suicide by cop requires you to be threatening. If you can't run it is hard to jump in front of things. I know trains are options, but you get on those tracks and it feel much different than throwing yourself in traffic.

there's your answer right there. when you were lifting heavy and not eating enough, your body was burning fat and adding muscle. you mentioned side abs coming in around that time. so you were losing fat it just didn't register on the scale. now you're eating more calories but your body is a finely tuned machine now and it's turning all of those extra calories into (mostly) muscle. the deficit works you just have to stick with it longer. eventually your body will run out of fat to burn. you might have been taking in some hidden calories also and weren't really at 2000. it's very easy to do. drop down to 1800 and really optimize food choice- nothing but super healthy satiating foods- and you'll see the number on the scale go down and those abs will really start to become visible.

Sounds like you hit a plateau where you started recomping while your metabolism downregulated so what should've been a 500-800 calorie deficit slowly became around maintenance.
Prolong diets while lifting hard can result in higher cortisol levels. Upping your carbs has probably resulted in a cortisol dump, better training and more NEAT expenditure.
Keep slowly increasing calories every week by 100-200 until your weigh starts to move up OR you look obviously less lean in the mirror, then do the opposite. Cut 200-300. Watch the weight drop. When it stops dropping cut another 200-300. Rinse and repeat until you reach your goal.
It's called reverse dieting. That way you can fix your metabolism and lose weight at 2800 instead of 1800.

Can afford to have a lot more treats in my diet and not either put on loads of weight or trigger a massive binge. Gonna lock back in in September anyway to shift the last 20lbs or so I want to lose.

You are probably micro sleeping so you aren't completely fucked. More importantly cardio/VO2 max will offset no/little sleep. You still will make (maybe little) gains, but more importantly your brain will function better.
My protip: Log like your life depends on it. You won't remember shit and you won't remember how hard you worked. Make sure you notes include some sort of number that describes how you feel. I recommend minimum: tireness (sleep and physical from the exercise) and happiness (or sadness if you want to measure like a little bitch). Write down your scale and update it every month. At some point, hopefully, 3 won't mean suicidal (if that is where you are at).

That's it. It's really easy once you get used to it. It doesn't matter if you do it the day before, the day after, etc. You're generally eating 800 a day right? (unless it's a ton of chicken breast your gonna lose muscle with calories this low). But if you end up eating 2000, then fast the day after, it's same as eating 1000 a day. If you fast for 2 days, boom, now you only ate 666 a day. Alternatively you can just keep track of calories per week or calories per month and make up the amount by eating slightly less everyday. But both of those are kinda extreme, only do it if you're retarded like me and doing this shit ain't gonna stress you out and make you drop out of the diet.

It's easier for giga fat people since they have higher TDEE but you're 97kg, significantly harder but still very doable. 75kg by December is also hard because losing weight becomes way more difficult once you're sub 90~85kg, but still doable, depends on how serious and hardcore about the diet you are. There are still 136 days (4.6 months) til the end of the year, technically 97-75=22kg, /4.6months = only 4.85kg per month. 1h of cardio would help a lot, if you burn an extra 300~500 daily it adds up. It helps but realistically you're burning like 300~600 in one hour. That's 1.2~2.4kg a month if you do it every single day, which you won't. Helps way more if you jog, and if you're giga fat(since you're carrying more weight you burn more), also if you do it on an incline. Also there's health benefits and shit.
But realistically, for weight loss, if you skip a meal you're going to see the same exact weight loss, probably even more. And you don't need to lose an hour of your time and do effort. So it's not like you need it.
If you combine both diet and cardio you're going to lose weight faster though

But the thing is when you're giga fat on like 4000 TDEE or some shit, you can legit lose >7kg a month from just dieting and still have a ton of calories to spare. Doing cardio when you weight like 160kg is so much effort, when I was that weight I'd literally jog for 1h and it'd make me exhausted and sore for the rest of the day. All that for like 1 or 2kg when you're losing 7kg from just eating less. Literally high effort low reward compared to dieting, I understand why giga fatties don't wanna do it
But fair point too, you can't outrun a bad diet, if you eat more after you jog, chances are that you've burned less than what you ate, so you're actually worse off(from a weight loss standpoint, no idea about the health benefits of exercise, but if you're giga fat then weight loss should probably be your #1 priority for health anyways). I'm assuming that they understand that and aren't increasing calorie intake

i managed to do three pull-ups last night though i had to cheat by jumping up a bit at the start. i tried to do leg lifts from a dead hang but could only get to about 60 degrees from vertical (you're supposed to get to 90 degrees). so that means my core is weak as shit, just as i suspected. i've been trying to solve some problems with my hips and my posture and i think that a muscle imbalance is likely the main problem. i'm going to practice doing those leg lifts and also work on my pull-ups.
i told my friend i needed to do some core work and he told me about bicycles. i don't see any reason why i shouldn't be doing these frequently until i get some core strength built up. i think i can get to ten pull-ups with a bit of training and my goal is to be able to do a muscle-up from dead hang to survive the 'dangling from a chairlift' scenario.

My program changes every once in a while. Whats important is learning training principles. Namely hitting what you want to grow 2 or 3x a week and 1x a week for maintenence to round out muscle imbalances. Early on go for strength gains in basic compounds and accesories. As you get more advanced cycle between strength and hypetrophy phases.

so i'm super busy working this summer and i have had a hard time keeping my calorie intake down. i decided to eat around maintenance for the first two weeks of my new job and then drop back down to what i thought was a reasonable deficit. i succeeded for only three days. after that i started eating A LOT MORE FOOD. i have been averaging about 3000 calories a day for an entire month. didn't weight myself all month except for once and it looked like i had gained weight so when i weighed myself today, i expected the worst. i figured that i would either have gained a few pounds or at best stayed the same weight. so i was very surprised to see that i had lost 1.5lbs from my previous lowest weight. that puts me only 8lbs from my goal weight.
i am eating about 750 calories above maintenance each day, and am still losing about 1 to 1.5lbs a week, so i must be burning about 1250-1500 calories a day just from work. i have not exercised at all this month- only work.

Same thing happened to me. I quit my desk job and got a physically demanding job and losing weight despite being over the deficit. I really need to get my shit together though. I think if I do something physical with my body when I get hungry on break (walk around or smoke a cig or something) then I can push through it and stick to one mea a day when I get home to stay in my deficit.
