Basketball is terrible for losing weight unless you are constantly moving non stop for atleast half an hour and then it's even worse for your tendons because you're running and jumping which your tendons aren't used and if you take it easy to not hurt your knees and ankles then it's not intense enough to lose significant weight.
Go to your local park and jog a couple of laps around the park, then increase the laps and speed you run at every week and do some calisthenics and low intensity plyos, that will do much more for losing weight AND it will prepare your body to actually be able to play basketball so you can eventually either play it on top of the cardio or replace it but with enough intensity you're not missing anything from the running and won't hurt yourself.
Do this for atleast a couple of months or until your are relatively close from your ideal bodyweight.
