I have a sore on the top of my foot. It started as a callous, then I rubbed the dead skin off a bit too much causing it to become inflamed. A week later it looks like this after the scab peeled off.

How do I fix this?

Is the area warm to the touch? Has the outer splotch of red been spreading? If so, its infected.
Clean it with soap and water, soak it in warm water or with a warm wet rag three times a day for ten minutes, then let it dry. Apply OTC antibiotic ointment and put a bandage on it. Change the bandage daily.
If it gets significantly worse, like you develop a fever or the red really spreads (especially if it streaks like its shooting up a vein), get your ass to the doctor pronto.

Oh, and if you use a rag to soak it, make sure its fucking clean.

It's no warmer than the rest of my skin.
The red angry area is from the recent callous removal. The "black" spot is more concerning to me. It bleeds red blood if poked, so I don't think it's infected, but it hasn't healed much either. Is it just discoloration due to blood near the surface? I've never had an injury like this before. It isn't worsening yet, but the color is very unnerving.

You need to go to a dermatologist and make sure it’s not a carcinoma.
Anonymous No.76521297 >>76521321
>>76521208
It’s hard to tell if the black spot is just the deepest part of the scab or something else. If it’s not warm and the red isn’t spreading I wouldn’t worry too much yet. Clean it, use antibiotic ointment and keep it bandaged. When you are at home and don’t have to wear shoes and socks, you can leave it uncovered so it can get air flow.
Keep an eye on it and if it’s changing for the worse or you develop other symptoms, go to a doctor.

How would carcinoma form in a day?
The original injury was from falling down some steps and gouging out a piece of skin on the way down.
I cleaned it up and poked at it a bit. It was red beneath the surface would, but had formed a dark spot. I thought it might be a scab, but if I were to guess, it's from the wound being deeper than I initially realized.

Anyway. I cleared away the callous around it thinking it would help it heal faster. It didn't really help as much as I'd hoped.

I let it all scab up, but I made the mistake of kneeling and it tore nearly the whole scab off revealing that dark spot.

In diabetes, foot necrosis (tissue death) develops primarily due to a combination of nerve damage (neuropathy) and reduced blood flow (ischemia), often exacerbated by infection. High blood sugar levels in diabetes damage nerves, leading to peripheral neuropathy, which can cause loss of sensation in the feet. This means a person may not feel a cut, blister, or infection, allowing it to worsen and potentially spread. Simultaneously, diabetes can damage blood vessels, restricting blood flow to the feet. This reduced blood flow impairs the body's ability to heal and fight infection, further increasing the risk of tissue damage and necrosis.

I'm diabetic, but not fat. It's genetic in my case. The wound is on the top of my foot, not the bottom where 99% of foot ulcers form. It's from an injury. Not from being over 9000 pounds.

not that anon, but hold the fuck on.
You are diabetic, have a wound that could be a diabetic ulcer, and you are not freaked out?
How do you think diabetic ulcers develop? It has nothing to do with being fat but has to do with irreversible disease progression. It always starts as an insignificant wound, from a sore, stubbing your toe etc

What type diabetes?
How are you treating it?
Frequent urinations? (particularly, waking up during night to pee?
How long was your latest lab assessment, and what did you get? (fasting glucose, HbA1c or glucose tolerance test?

Pretty sure a dude that has lived with diabetes his whole life knows whats up. It's not like Cleetus that would rather have his feet rot off than give up his sugar water.

I'm type 2. In my family, even the skinny guys get it when we hit about 40. I'm one of the skinny freaks that got it at 30. I avoid sugar and carbs because of it. I eat mosly lean meats and broccoli.

the way he phrased his comment clearly shows he doesnt understand it.
Also heredity for type 2 is stronger than type 1 and also more common. Type 2 doesnt imply fat.

Did you have any of the symptoms i mentioned?
What about last checkup, labs?

Anyway, the fastest way to heal a wound is to keep an airtight plaster covering it.
If the wound is not infected/generating pus, you should keep the plaster on 24/7. If it is, it needs to be cleaned, how often depends on how much pus it produces.

Dont dry the wound out. Every time you do, you lose massive healing progress.

Im not gonna argue, but that black center looks necrotic to me. If it really is, then you need to get the wound looked at by a healthcare professional. By the way, how the wound looks like right now you will need to change dressings to monitor how it is healing (ie 24/7 plaster seal doesnt apply here)

But are you treating it with strict diet only, no medicine?

>>76521536
dont do this.

if it's not healing up as usual get some neosporin or similar antibiotic and keep using it till you run out of the tube or it heals completely. use 2-3 bandaids a day to keep it dry and clean
