Is stronglifts 5x5 good for DYELS?
What if I wanted to increase the volume/reps to a classical 3x10 for some exercises, it would be a good idea?
Anonymous No.76525914 >>76525986

I am doing a modification of it
>day a
Squat 5x5
Bench 5x5
Rows 5x5
Curls 3x8-12
>day b
Deadlift 3x5/1x5
Chinup 5x5
OHP 5x5
Ab wheel 3x10-15
You could do a 3x10 with a full body setup but your chest volume might be a little low. If you do run full body make it every other day, even on weekends

do it for 3 months and then move over to Stronglifts 5x5 Plus. It's more akin to a proper bodybuilding routine.

Does it work?
I mean, how could such a low frequency and volume make you any jacked?

Just follow RPT lean gains guide. I average 4-6 sets for a muscle group a week and get fake natty accusations when I post body

I did it when I joined a real gym, it's good at gaslighting you into loving squats and gives you a pretty well-rounded approach to programming your muscle groups (r*dditors will say it's too much lower volume but they're all parroting the "correct" information they found while passionately researching their new interest but are themselves dyel at time of posting; been there done that).
The thing I moved onto that really blew up strength progression after I started to plateau was 3x5 + 3x10 instead of 5x5, with very similar lifts and split. I still do this.
You can avoid hitting the plateau for longer by actually eating your protein and calories. Weirdly I don't think sleep is as important, maybe it's good for avoiding injury and actually enjoying life, but most of my PRs were when I slept worse actually.

Also your arms simply will not grow on stronglits 5x5 unless you're on gear, don't believe the program insisting that you will or that you'll be exhausted and miss PRs if your do arms on your off days.

That's cuz ss is catered to people who have no idea what they're doing. Even the coaches rely on the followers to be ignorant. Starting strength coaches will flat out say that someone whose squat that went up 50 pounds in 3 months is due to them gaining 30 pounds of muscle since they gained 30 pounds on GOMAD.

It's completely pointless to give you a number because the intensity has to be there. I do 4-6 sets a week for a muscle. But they are all to and past failure. If someone left reps in the tank (like every exercise science study) that wouldn't work. Why not follow a established program with a progression scheme and follow it? Stop chasing optimal and start chasing progress for fucks sake.

Builds a good foundation. Very strength and mass focused. I did sl and ss for like 2-3 years. My lifting routine after a decade is still similar.

But every video i see it always says 10 sets are ideal for beginners. I even stopped my original routine cuz it had like 7 sets for chest. I do go to mechanical failure and do grow but I am so scared of it being not optimal. Also when I do find a program they don't have enough arm volume or dont even have enough ab volume. I feel so discouraged :( to top it all off if I do add these muscles groups in they make workouts so much longer

I also hate when these nigger programmers count dips or pullups towards arms. It genuinely fucks with my head

Then where should I go? Also everyone says they will never be enough for arms. People like Alex leonidas and natural hypertrophy say so.
They point at people like jason blaha who are dyel for these practices.
It's over for natties and I just began. I will never be big without steroids. The world is so cruel to me.

4 sets of weighted dips 4 sets of weighted chains a week. 16.5 inches while being fairly lean after lifting for around a year and a half. The problem isn't a program or being natural, the problem is you. If you aren't trolling maybe find a new hobby like knitting, since you obviously aren't cut out for this

>spend weeks working with the bar + a few kgs
No, it's designed to have a long startup in order to force buy-in, it's a marketing tactic
Of the LP's, Bill Starr's 5x5 in The Strongest Shall Survive is the original and best, for reasons that the other 5x5s which copied his failed to understand
>ramping sets instead of sets across
>same three lifts every workout instead of adding more
>move to HLM quickly instead of grinding every session
>ab work for warmup
>power cleans instead of deadlifts
The book includes both details on how to perform the lifts, as well as various substitute lifts and ways to use them, and even solid nutritional advice that still stands today
Starr was literally the source of the original 5x5 program. Everybody else who uses 5 reps in their programs says they chose 5 "because everyone else does it / everyone knows that just works". Starr actually tells you why he chose to use sets of 5, and when it's appropriate to use different rep counts too.
Absolutely top tier book, which is why it's so expensive now, but you can find a pdf for the low low price of free if you look

5x5 is retarded

not even close to enough volume
Anonymous No.76527030
These old school ones assumed that you played high school football/rugby/wrestling (fill in your full contact sport of choice here). They were the only people interested in training. They couldn’t even envisage the sort of failed experiment looking people that would train with weights now, so keep that in mind

On a serious note, they’re far too bottom heavy. Look elsewhere

It’s enough if you are actually lifting weight and not playing pretend

>Is stronglifts 5x5 good for DYELS?
Yes is very good. Not only for DYELs but also when you're tired of bodybuilding and want to return to some not-so-boring strength routine.
>What if I wanted to increase the volume/reps to a classical 3x10 for some exercises, it would be a good idea?
Yes, but then it will not be SL.

>Is stronglifts 5x5 good for DYELS?
Yes. Stick with it at least until you hit plateaus and can't improve anymore. At that point you'll have the experience and knowledge to switch routine without making a thread on 4chan.
>What if I wanted to increase the volume/reps to a classical 3x10
When the program actually gets hard, you won't be able to do 10 reps of an exercise.
>>76526478
As a beginner don't worry too much about it. Getting into the gym is more important than being 100% efficient. Efficiency comes with experience, which you can only get by being in the gym.

>What if I wanted to increase the volume/reps to a classical 3x10 for some exercises, it would be a good idea?
I tried the 5x5 as a severe newb. I switched immediately to 3x10. I also altered it. I switch between barbell and dumbbell workouts 3x a week. I also do around 6+ different workouts instead of just three. I'm starting with a dad bod haven't done much of anything in twenty years. I also added a daily 5 mile bike for warmup on strength days or when i get to it on off days. I did start some stretching/basic yoga so i could touch my toes without issue. It does seem helpful if and when i get the stam and into a groove. I plan to possible use it more when i get into heavier weights across the board. Everyone is a touch different but my wifey is better with the 5x5 starting out than I was last month. It just wasn't making me work or sweat.
