How can I get into boxing if I have zero intention of competing?

No gym worth a shit will make you compete. Most won't even pressure you to spar unless you want to. You'd be surprised how many older dads box just to keep their cardio up, but they don't fight.

That depends on what country you're in. In Germany, your scenario is absolutely impossible, coaches will 100% ignore you if you're not young and willing to compete.

The worst part if they still take your money and give you 0 feedback even if you are only 9 other people in a group class. You need a good coach but most wont even give you a fair chance if you are White collar

i was banned for my ghetto gym because the new head coach (new owner) simply didnt like me (he couldnt even give me 1 reason) havent found any other gym since 8 months ago lol
i wasnt the only one banned too for no valid reason, being told "you dont look friendly enough" isnt a valid reason for anyone. no i wasnt kissing his ass and i am 32

Just look up boxing gyms in your area and go to one that seems cool. If the class is mostly young strapping men they might not give you a lot of attention, but ive never been to a boxing gym that wouldnt be happy to take your money to let you come in and hit the bags

>You'd be surprised how many older dads box just to keep their cardio up

I was kicked out of a gym because I was told my cardio was too shit. Now I'm back to runnign, which I fucking hate with every fiber of my soul, and its going accordingly (like utter shit). So I'm not getting fit enough to get fit via Boxing. Very nice Catch-22, thanks for nothing.
Where are those mythical dad gyms?

dude youre overthinking this shit way too much, you wanna try boxing ? find a gym in your area and just go lol, in europe i think theres usually sperate classes for kids and adults, kids are trained for amateur tournaments and adults just fuck around and do sparring, if they offer you no sparring just hitting the bags, i wouldnt recommend such gym because boxing is meaningless if you cant spar

Just go to any gym. Most people don't compete, they just go for the workouts, confidence, fun, and maybe do a bit of sparring.

i cant recommend boxing enough, its so op, just knowing the basics like jab-straight right combo ( u learn that shit on first day) can win you street fights

15 is already too old for them to care about training you and I'm not kidding.

For boxing if you don't get into it as a kid there's no reason for them to help you. If you want to do a martial art just do BJJ

He's right tho, if you're white you're gonna have a hard time.
Coaches will train you wrong as a joke (Always keep your hands up even when punching, punching is a posterior chain movement that starts in the legs etc.)

Same in Italy. Adults are used just to finance the gym so they can train the young people who have a chance at competing.

It's also taken for granted that you are just doing it to lose weight and to have abs.

That's what pushes me to choose sports that have become popular among adults like muay thai and bjj, even if I would prefer boxing.

the one I go to sure has a bunch of dads training, but you're actually being taught by active pros and champs, and you spar with them. The groups are small too

Its not like the coach is cus damato you could probably get to a higher level in a year with a heavy/uppercut/water bag, speed bags are gay. Would cost about 1000, youll need weights for at least a year to strengthen wrists and shoulders to be able to handle a 100% punch anyways, a lot of boxers break their knuckles and tear wrists when they get in street fights.

Do you mean WORSE gym? Why would pros want to teach out of shape old cunts how to do one of the most demanding and injury prone sports on earth? "Adult learners" are all retarded. If you wanted to box so bad you'd have learned it as a teenager, just accept that its over and go dabble in BJJ with the rest of the dreamers.

I mean even george foreman barely lifted but he hit hard as shit, he was worn out from cardio all the time.

Boxers never just lift, its difficult to get enough practice in even after lifting and for it to be effective. If i was starting from no experience with either id be doing boxing fresh once a week or 2 just to see where my speed is, and be doing an upper body split with legs/core at the end of the week before resting 2-3 days minimum and youll need 2wk deloads more often than just lifting.

Depends on your goals, you can just self-train anything you need without paying for a specialized gym
The only reason why you would want a specialized gym would be to compete so you can get real world advice from people who did compete

The problem with combat sports in America is that it’s all a business. I’ve had a stand up punching bag in my living room for years now where I just practice my punches and kicks whenever I’m bored for fun and I’ve gotten pretty decent. If you’re on the bigger side and have decent cardio it’s good enough to fuck up anyone untrained and they’d probably have you just doing bagwork anyways if you went to an actual gym. But also I don’t really care if my striking is kinda dogshit, only good enough because I also have grappling experience so take this with a grain of salt.
