What do I do if I can't even do a front rack or a snatch-grip squat? These seem like minimum requirements for Oly lifts. Are there exercises?

You want an honest answer? If you can't get into positions on your first day trying oly, just give up. It'll save you hours and hours of stretching, knee, hip and wrist pain, muscle and tendon tears, fucked up hands, bruised collarbones, thigh rash and so on. And most of all, it’ll save you from the dissatisfaction of snatching only 80kg at best after years of training. Do anything but oly. Honest. I've been doing it for almost a decade. Oly is NOT worth starting from a real zero like you are. Sorry.

Let me guess self taught or retarded coach? I don't want to hear jack shit about muh proportions when I see 6'4" dudes get into a full overhead squat for reps with 80kg on the bar.

Neither, just saying what I think to be true. If you want to do oly while being an immobile sack of lard it’s fine. But everything has a price and oly’s price is very, very high. 130/165@96 btw.

Dawg I weigh 80kg, just snatched 60kg and power jerked 70kg after 6 months of training and being weak as fuck prior. I still can't squat 2pl8 or DL 3. I'm not even built for the sport and have long monkey arms so I'm already fucked for jerk. What the fuck did you even do to get fucked up like that? I don't even stretch, just basic joint mobility prior to lifting.

Practice with an empty bar and increase weight. If a 45lb barbell is too heavy, use a lighter bar.

Marchokov snatched 120 on his first day, what’s your point? You’re 6 months in. You’re going to progress for the next three years if you keep at it, then it’ll be a grind that tears your body down for not even 5 kilos added on your total a year. Just telling it how it is for most of us (the non talented people). I don’t want you to not enjoy what you do at the gym. I just want you to know that doing oly long term is going to ruin your body while giving you very little satisfaction in return. Hell, I’m one of the strongest at my club, and I can’t even make the cut for nationals. I keep doing it half out of habit, half because I don’t know how to do anything else. It’ll happen to you too. Either way enjoy doing oly while you can.

Oly has literally fixed my shoulders in conjunction with doing actually solid bodybuilding work and other compound lifts on top. I was an injury mess prior to starting and it seems like it's really turning the tide on how often I'm getting fucked up. I will say that oly lifters are completely retarded when it comes to actual bodybuilding methods and there seems to be a general reluctance to use targeted isolations and machine work over just pressing and pulling more like a dumbass. I split upper lower with one of my upper days being entirely machine work to give my CNS a rest and because machines are objectively better for hypertrophy.

You seem to be quite opinionated for a 6 month beginner so I’ll leave you there. Keep what I’ve told you in mind, it’ll happen to you sooner or later. Cheers.

Mostly because I've seen enough proof of guys from my club who run counter to your narrative.

Oly lifts select for tiny quads, long torsos, and mobile wrists, ankles + shoulders (muh proportions - it's not your height, but where you carry it that counts). If your biomechanics don't mesh with oly lifts, you're wasting your time. it's like insisting on swimming for cardio when you're a natural runner. find alternatives.

I'm not >>76540629 but I agree. Except I don't do oly, but I used to before I moved into just lifting like a normal person. It was fun and all and I had good technique but honestly progress is slow and feels stupid to do when you can just max your conventional lifts and make exponentially more gains.

I don't regret learning oly cause it gave me the foundantion for conventional lifting and now I have good technique and can properly clean the bar before ohp and whatnot, but if I had to do it all over again I'd skip it unless I was a natural which I know I'm not.

you can do all the work you want, if you're built like right, you're not meant to be doing oly lifts.

you can try all you want, but it makes more sense to try something you're suited to. Just do split squats, box squats or zercher squats and sprints if oly lifting feels wrong

Tbh I don't even want to be good at oly, I just want the bare minimum mobility. If my mobility is so bad that I can't even do the basic lifts with an empty bar then that seems pretty bad

power clean
Anonymous No.76541489
>>76540577 (OP)
Thing is those are technical lifts first then feats of strength
I was blessed with enough mobility to be able to do both on day one of trying but i still have to grasp the explosivity of the movement. I'm still stuck at
>power clean (slowly easing myself towards 90degrees squat in the clean, i can do ATG on all other squats)
into
>push press
the push press is nicely and slowly turning into a jerk, i can pull 120 kg quite high so im expecting 100kg clean or power clean by the end of the year (i'm already at 85kg)
