Is taking Adderall worth it?
I have ADHD and throughout my life I've found it very difficult to concentrate and work on things that need to be done. I've heard that taking Adderall or other stimulants can help in this regard, but I'm very afraid of the potential side effects such as increased anxiety. I also have OCD, which is an anxiety disorder, and I'm concerned that Adderall may make my symptoms worse. I've previously taken Zoloft which had a tremendously negative effect on me, though I understand that stimulants and SSRIs are much different from one another. Is taking Adderall still worth it in my situation?

I don't know if I would trust Dr. 4Chan for more than anecdotes, but if you start and realize you dislike it, you can always stop. I don't see there being any downside to trying, so why not just see?

No
Stimulants aren't worth it, even if you have ADHD

I'm on ritalin. It's effective on OCD symptoms too for me.
It's literally all upsides. It's "worth it" like getting 8 hours of sleep is worth it.
You can benefit from coaching-oriented therapy with your ADHD too but I don't see why not talk to a psychiatrist about medication, worst case scenario it takes a week/10mgs to wean it off and it's over.

Dont stims heat up and dry your brain? There are neuroregenerative properties with caffeine and other stimulants since it creates new neural pathways and synapses firing since coffee slows the production of melatonin compared to just making everything faster and causing serotonin to crash then lower production permanently with abuse.

Itll fuck you up long term but coffee is good for people with parkinsons, tremors, etc.

They just activate your nervous system in the process of stimulating your frontal lobes, hence the reduced appetite and thirst side effects. If you are ADHD your body was already *hyperactive* and you already needed to learn breathwork and relaxation techniques and figure out eating and hydration.
At a neurological level you are already virtually brain damages and they actually promote long-term improvement, they can literally promote growth in the deficient areas of your brain if you start as a kid because of the high neuroplasticity.
You're not gonna be on them forever because you build resistence, but if you have adhd you have more to worry about than potential side effects of stimulants like coffee compared to the neurological disability you already have.

It's worth a try, but it might make your anxiety and ocd worse, or it could improve some if the anxiety was a result of your ADHD. Only way to know for sure is to try it.

Also golden tip: DO NOT DRINK COFFEE WHEN TAKING ADHD MEDS. This made my anxiety and paranoia skyrocket back in the day.

I started taking it about a year ago, been good for me, doing much better at work and life in general. I’m intentionally keeping myself at a moderate dose (20 mg XR) by taking breaks (two days every week or two, full week every couple of months). Most bad stories I’ve heard come from people who let their tolerance get too high and have to keep upping their dosage.

They are worth it especially if you are still studying or working a job that requires concentration or requires self-guiding.

I have heard of cases where regular medication has eased OCD, Depression and anxiety like symptoms. As depression and anxiety tend to be side-products of procrastination.

I have also quit caffeine with meds as they only increased my anxiety and gave me this jittery feeling like I needed to move alot.

Happened to me, only figured it after 6months of inconsistent use. Took a two month break and lowered my dosage from 54mg to 36mg and its working properly.

I’ve been prescribed them for years. I find it’s best to do cost benefit analysis on if you really need them week to week and day to day. If you’re in a really chaotic busy period of life they can be really helpful for maintaining structure and being able to keep your eye on the ball. If you’re in a position where you can build a disciplined routine and have a sort of “steady state” existence that’s a lot healthier. Then you can take them very sporadically when you need a day or two to help reestablish the routine or address some “doom tasks”.

dealing with a psychiatrist isn't as easy as just "stop taking it" unless you want to get put in an asylum
