If you buy high welfare pork it's not that bad.
For me the test of ethical meat consumption is: did the animal have a worse life than if it lived in the wild? If it lived in a cage with no room to turn around, pumped with steroids and antibiotics, then it probably did. If it lived in a spacious outdoor pen, had other pigs to socialise with and had all diseases treated until one day it got shot in the head then it's a much better life considering its fate in the wild would likely have been dying of infection or being eaten alive guts-first.
AFAIK organic is the highest welfare standard you can get so I only buy organic meat. Of course if I eat out I can't tell what meat the restaurant buys, probably not the best, but at least the majority of my meals can be high welfare. Maybe I should limit myself to chicken and seafood at restaurants...
