/fat/ - Fat Loss General
>Who is /fat/ for?
For famous feasters working towards a longer life and a better physique through meaningful hard-work, strategy, and dedication. This is not QTDDTOT, stick to questions on fat loss. Post height and weight when asking for advice.
Join our Fatty Contest: https://www.fattycontest.com/

>What do I do first?
1. Read https://physiqonomics.com/fat-loss/
2. Calculate your Body Fat Percentage: https://fitness.bizcalcs.com/Calculator.asp?Calc=Body-Fat-Navy
3. Calculate your TDEE: https://www.sailrabbit.com/bmr/
Remember to use bodyfat% and use Katch-McArdle Formula with sedentary settings or your TDEE will be too high.
4. Plan your weight loss: https://www.losertown.org/eats/cal.php
5. Track your nutrition with MyFitnessPal (better for packaged food), Cronometer (better for generic food/macros), LoseIt (great for both), or Waistline (FOSS).

>Now what?
Count calories, all of them.
Eat about 500-1000 less calories than your TDEE.
Buy scales, be accurate.
Learn to cook. Try to stick to lean protein and green vegetables.
Eat a lot of protein. 0.72g per pound of goal lean body mass.
Doing cardio, even just walking, will improve your health. There is no such thing as a healthy fat heart, but you can offset the risks.
Lifting weights will keep and gain muscle mass and lose fat much quicker. Not lifting results in the body eating away muscle AND fat.
Drink more water.
Read the /fit/ sticky: https://liamrosen.com/fitness.html

>DON'T
Eat refined sugars, they're terrible for you regardless of calories.
Eat processed foods.
Drink your calories (alcohol, soda, Starbucks).
Freak out over a weight loss stall. Plateaus can last up to three weeks.
"Reward" yourself. Cheat days cheat only yourself.

The only thing I did over the summer was lose 35 pounds. That's it. Did I waste the time I had?
It's worth noting that I was in hellish misery the entire time due to many regrets that happened before summer. So not only was I under the stress of a very difficult caloric deficit, but my emotions and inner monologue were intensely angry and self-destructive.
I look back with some regret at not having been more productive, yet I also feel like I should be satisfied with how I did considering how terrible my place in life actually is right now.

Any advice on how to deal with an oblivious partner?

It is not my husband is unsupportive, but he wants to eat junk all the time. Every single friend hangout involves eating pizza or burgers and if I say that I don't want to go with him he would rather stay home, but then will complain that he's not seeing his friends enough.

He's much taller than I am and works and active job, even though he also put some weight on since we got married it is practically invisible.

I am losing my mind. I gained 25kg since I married him. I managed to find a job that got me living at home only half of the time (I was a live in nanny half the week) and effortlessly lost 15kg of that weight. This year I had to quit and the scale is already going up.

I am seriously at my limit. Any advice?

well first it's worth asking if you've actually explained to him why it bothers you and why you don't want to go with him. Tell him you don't like the food and you're on a diet, don't just expect him to guess that's the reason why.

second, you also have other options
>go with him and don't eat
>go with him, don't eat, and then ask him to take you to a healthy spot later
>try and get the "healthiest" option at these places - I always like chicken wings, they're high in protein and relatively low in fat / carbs compared to other shit, and every american restaurant has them (make sure to get him to pay for it too)

40 lbs. is easily doable. 80 lbs. is going to be hard as fuck and potentially dangerous unless you see a nutritionist/dietician. I'd set your stretch goal at like 60. Good luck, though!

I have talked to him about it several times. He knows I have a certain goal to get breast reduction surgery. He just seems to forget.

I got a non stick pan, he will still fry my eggs with oil. I tell him how to make my coffee sugar free from now on and he surprises me with coffee in bed and it has sugar, hell sometimes it is sweeter than what I used to drink before.

If I go out with his friends and choose not to eat or have something healthier they comment on it.

I just don't know how to approach the subject firmly enough and not start a fight at the same time.

I'm close to thinking he's sabotaging me at this point.

Cook your own food if you don't like what he's making for you. If it's good, make some for him, too.
>If I go out with his friends and choose not to eat or have something healthier they comment on it.
Either stop caring about what his friends think or politely tell them to fuck off. You could try pushing back on it, too, which might work unless they're basically a pack of bogans or you're not particularly funny, but that's high risk high reward. Alternatively, if you don't like his friends, just don't go. He should be mature enough to handle his wife not wanting to go everywhere with him.

27 year male here. I’ve dropped 30 pounds in the last 7 months from just cutting out soda, alcohol, sweets, and junk food. I’m currently sitting at 5’6” 135lbs, and wanting to lose another 5-10 so I can get rid of the lasts little bit of belly fat. I take a multivitamin, and fish oil every morning. I do a single set of pushups, pull-ups, squats, and a plank everyday, along with a set here and there of pull-ups/pushups. Anything I can do to speed it up, and how do I maintain once I reach my goal? I don’t ever want to gain weight again. My highest was 165, and I usually maintained between 115-130 until a psycho ex convinced me to take Jew meds. I’m off everything now except 10mg adderal ER once in the morning with my vitamins. Grew up in a hoarder house and was fed slop and could eat whatever whenever I wanted so to get to where I am now has been one hell of a journey. I don’t drink coffee, just water with the occasional electrolytes. Doing my best to stay thin despite my gf being southern and cooking for an army every week. God help me bros.

Just hit 80lbs down.
I have gained some muscle, lost a bunch of fat, and feeling great. Still have a good bit of work to do, though. More motivated than ever now - I can see and feel the progress and just started dating this twunk bro I'm super jealous of and want to lose my last bit of fat, lol

My end goal has always been 189lbs. The only reason for that is because of the BMI - at 6'1", that would place me at "normal weight." I know that BMI is not gospel or the end all be all, but still.

I have a lot of loose skin and flab under my waistband. Might consider surgery. Not sure. We'll see.

Advice to lose that last 6? I've plateau'd a little
Also, excited because for the first time in my life, I feel like I can see my abs underneath everything.

I'm not even the chicken and broccoli anon. I do a whole chicken breast plus one large onion once a day and don't get ravenously hungry or anything.

Pic related is one common explanation, though its mostly debunked, your fat cells can't literally fill with water, though water might be retained somewhere else in your body. Truth is we don't know why despite being an a deficit people's weight can plateau for weeks on end only to suddenly catch up to where they were supposed to be over the course of a few days, but it happens.

cook the onion in a pan on the lowest heat setting with a tiny bit of oil on the pan, and a little salt on the onion, you dont have to stir it for the first hour, but after hour 1, stir it every 10 minutes. after the second hour it should be done

If you're asking if the lower bmp is good/bad for continued weight loss, it's neutral. It's great for your health which should be more of your concern. As for burning calories, you can think of it in relative terms of your bpm, not static. If you're trying to raise your BPM 50% during whatever you're doing, base it on your new heart rate, not your old one, and you should still see the same results.

Well I don't really know but I would speculate it has to do with metabolism. Your body can burn fats or carbs and it can switch between these two modes but when you hit your body with a bunch of both, it just burns the carbs and all the fat is getting stored. Carb+fat also tends to be hyper easy to digest and hyper pallatable and just all around fatty foods. I am sure there is more to it

I'm 25 years old and have lurked variants of these threads for like a decade. Forcing myself not to eat never worked long term. Maybe this is your first time here but maybe not. It can feel easy to be high and mighty but if you're here you've presumably failed to "force yourself not to eat" like you apparently imagine most "normal weight" people do, for your whole life. What makes you think you're going to be able to sustain long term weight loss when most people don't?
Yeah, you feel really motivated right now. I did too whenever I got back to it. But things swing and get harder, shit happens in your life. It's very easy to get pulled back into fat habits.
I'm willing to take tirzepatide for life to not be fat. Nothing else has worked, im tired of my young life going by while being fat. Just keep all this in mind as you go forward.
And keep in mind there's a lot of FUD around GLP1s that is, frankly, seething.
Our society assigns a huge amount of spiritual virtue to thinness nowadays. GLP1s, under this framework, create the opportunity for "spiritual fatties" to "blend in" as thin people without "doing the work".
You should do whatever it takes to get yourself into a healthy body you're comfortable in. I'm not telling you you need a GLP1 but don't let bucket crabs hold you down from exploring all your options.

The weight you want to loss is fat, and the body generally prefers burning glycogen into sugar first and restoring it through carbs because it's more efficient. Assuming you're getting enough protein, it won't draw from muscle before moving onto lipolysis. The more fat you eat the less of your fat it needs to break down. That being said, you do have a basic fat/carb/protein requirement for homeostasis, but if you're going fat+carb you're slowing down the processes that are actually going to cause you to drop weight.

I lost 100lbs the legit way before ever touching a GLP-1, there's no honor in not using one if you can afford it. They're safe. Modern food is legitimately unnatural and addictive and rewires your brain. Ozempic/Mounjaro fix that with basically no downsides. Sounds too good to be true but I can't find any legitimate issues after all these years

breakfast

dinner:
>chicken + potato + green beans (444kcal, 30protein)

night snack:
> overnight oats + milk + protein powder (300kscal, 27protein)

so I have like 600kcal left, any ideas for cheap prepmeal? something after breakfast and before dinner.

well for one thing I was already losing weight pretty good before my semiglutide came in the mail. Just the excitement around getting it had me motivated and eating right. Once I got it I found that it was effective about reducing food noise but best practice is to start with a tiny dose and ramp up very slowly. Once you get to around 1 mg a week you really feel it making your appetite small. At this point shitting becomes a daily struggle though. I had to eat some carrots before and after every meal just feel confident that I might be able to shit it out later. I also found that 1mg injection was too much, I felt like shit the next day. Its way better to break your dose up into 2x per week. Also just use the minimum effective dose. Don't just keep increasing your dose because you can. Remember that it is something to help YOU with the weight loss, its not going to do everything by itself.

Also it should go without saying but you are going to need to really optimize your diet around meeting protein requirements. Dont turn into a sack of loose skin with bones inside.

per 100 ml water:
10-12g gelatine (powdered)
whatever flavoring you want to use (I used flavor drops)
sweetener optionally
food color optionally
1/2 tsp of lemon juice
Add gelatine to water, let it sit for ~5 minutes to soak. Heat while constantly stirring over low heat, wait until gelatine is fully dissolved. Do not reach or exceed 80C or it'll not harden.
Fill into forms
Let rest (few hours in fridge, overnight at room temp), if you want it even chewier remove from molds and let them air dry a bit more.
That's really it, though I'd suggest you wait until tomorrow so I can tell you if they're any good in terms of consistency. Just a question of gelatine to water ratio though.

So we are talking about a massive difference in cost. All of that and I wonder if the GIP action is really even at all important for people who are exercising rigorously. I have a suspicion that the difference in their effectiveness narrows significantly when the people in both groups are working out.
