>catch an awful sinus infection for a week
>progress nuked by the time I'm healthy again
this has happened the last few times I tried to get fit. how do I avoid getting sick?

Think of fitness as a high water mark. It may recede when you're sick or laid up, but you can get back there with a little work. Get well. You'll make it.
