That's based tho, these epeople are subsidizing your gym membership. If all the members actually showed up every day, the gym could not accept as many members and the fees would be higher for everyone.

I talked to a gym owner once and he told me that in his gym only 30% of people showed up regularily, and he said this was high by industry standards (because it's a more premium gym).

My grandpa's gym did it to him about 12 years ago. He used them for years then suddenly they started offering lifetime memberships but "get them while they last" that cost like 2 years worth of gym membership.

Then they shut down. And they knew they were shutting down when they did it. My grandpa is 2pl8ing bench in his 80s.

If I lived in a tiny apartment in some urban rathole, I would consider going to a nearby gym. Still, it's hard to rationalize not getting your own equipment. If you can't fit a simple squat rack and bench in your living space, you are most likely an interior decorating faggot or worse, under the thumb of your woman.
Even if I wind up living in a tent, there will be a gym, computer desk and stereo.

You close it, after making sure that your membership contracts lets you bail out of refunding the months/years that members paid for.

There's a good chance that current local lwas don't allow you to just scam people like that outright so you need to make one hell of a clever contract
Anonymous No.76598195

>How does a gym go out of business?
cost of business >>> income
for longer than your cash reserves

you can trick on either side
depending on whether you want to stay in or go out of business

gyms are comparatively capital expensive businesses (300k€-1mio€ to open one)
and you need to continuously invest high sums (renovations, new machines etc.)
while having very little marginal cost per new member

also lots of competition, people know the prices / are price sensitive, few possible USPs

I'm not surprised they constantly go out of business

Because if you live in an apartment and not a detached house, there's nowhere for you to put the gym. Putting a nice gym in your garbage and one of your spare rooms is doable with $120k, but not when you live in an apartment. It would be cramped as hell.

50 bucks, but employer pays half. It’s convenient because it’s right on the commute to work+24/7, equipment is clean and new and there’s never more than ~8 people inside even at peak hours, although a bit soulless/anonymous/‘big city-ish’. Would love to work out at a gym that had some more regulars, serious lifters and well-worn plates, some more history, but this will do nicely for now.

Not that guy, but I get free gym through my insurance (blue cross/blue shield). Previous job was similar, but it was something like flat-rate $20/25 for a membership good across a ton of gyms in the area (that's when I didn't have a home gym).
