Just how rare is a 2pl8/100kg OHP? I can do 1pl8 and honestly I feel like within a year or less I can probably break 2 for reps.
Anonymous No.76598641 [Report]
most i've seen someone do in 10.5 years of lifting in a commercial gym is 90 kg

Extremely rare
A 1pl8 is rare too

It really doesn't even feel special. I just did reps to get to about 110lbs(50kgish) for 5 then decided to smash out a plate for a 1rm earlier this week when I had access to bumpers and didn't need to re rack.

I also had an easy time progressing on that lift up to about 70 or 75 kilos
Relative to the others it's my best life consider yourself lucky
I love ohp

Idk i could probably do 185 now from 135 1rm 1yr ago but im doing like 100lbs super strict sometimes or delts just dont grow and some 125-145 btb pretty easily. Its easy for mid delts to outpace front and i get out of breath bracing for the weight more than delt failure.

Idk if 100lbs on ohp in a year is feasible without cheating the rep and doing shoulder hypertrophy most of the time.

Exactly. I'm a dyel and I can ohp 1 plate, and Ive only lifted 10 months and started at 55 pounds on my ohp.

Yeah its odd, long arms aren't a hard filter on progress like they are in benching. In the same situation where it's by far my best lift and I don't really feel like there's a hard limit to my progress coming up.
>>76598678
Yeah, once bench pressing took over in football weightrooms and it was dropped as an event then OHP died.
Anonymous No.76598700 [Report] >>76598776

I exclusively try to do OHP for hypertrophy, so I try to hit it in the 5-8 rep range at 80% of max. I only go up in the weight I do for reps once I can hit 8 with solid form. Might add front raises because like you said my mid delts are exploding and my front delts are lagging a bit.

haha
nope
100kg OHP is hard to reach for a natty, borderline impossible if you're a lanklet and don't want to get fat
yet a lot of people on fit claim to lift that for reps, I firmly believe those who are not trolling are actually doing push press or basically standing incline bench press

Im doing some narrow reverse no tricep mp, and only using the lower back on the backrest and gigabraced abs/serratus/head through/puffed chest.

I think the movement im missing is stiff arm bicep curls, and havent been benching as much but i like to brace chest on dips/flat/incline and to just push with elbows as the mp technique i cant get heavy enough and the pump is kinda soft. Its weird like i want to be doing some low pulley cable chest flies or something to finally get my delts massive, theyve been getting way bigger lately though with these techniques.

most likely a manlet on gear but from what I see very well trained with exceptional feats, respect for him, but he's certainly not a good representative of a hobby lifter
Anonymous No.76598838 [Report]
>>76598763
Oh youd have a fuckin 3pl8 ohp in no time doing a lot of strict narrow mp without using triceps and dips/bench/incline using just delts and focusing on (not too low without genie pose) bottom of rom and speed, and speed reps ripping from middle of rom. At that weight though its easy for elbows to go out and twist too far in or out so its good to tense forearms and try to push elbows inside of shoulder joints.

1pl8 ohp for 1 rep is the start of intermediate. 2pl8 ohp is basically elite tier

Ive hit 1pl8 for about five reps but 2pl8 doesnt feel realistic for me, not within a year, thats for sure

Significantly rarer than a 3pl8 bench, 4pl8 squat, and 5pl8 DL

Only ever seen one person other than myself do it in real life. But to be fair, I can count on one hand the amount of people in my gym that actually do conventional standing overhead press.
Anonymous No.76599239 [Report] >>76599249
>>76598631 (OP)
Well, yeah. It's basic math. You added 40kg to your OHP in a year, so if you lift another year you'll get the remaining 40 that you need for 2pl8. I'd aim to go from 1/2/3/4 to 2/3/4/5 in your second year though, and then target 3/4/5/6 in year 3.

most i've done was 205lbs, started a cut and now 155 is the most i can do. i'll see a couple guys press in the 185 ballpark but i don't think they're going for a 1RM or doing it for anything other than a bench accessory

*6months, started lifting seriously again in march. I should clarify that OHP isn't even my main overhead movement and I do jerks + push press. I'm already used to having even bigger loads above my head. My goal is to one break Klokov's record of 250kg for push press. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdN1Sg4j-Sk

>>76599249
Shouldn't take too long then. (250-60)/40x6=28.5. You're not even doing it as a main lift, so imagine the progress if you actually tried. I think you'll be there in like 24 months or two years.
Anonymous No.76599286 [Report] >>76599306
>>76599267
I dunno man, I think I can get it done in a year. Jerks, push press and OHP are all synergistic. When one goes up, the others go up with it. I think If I'm hitting a +120kg jerk by 9 months next year then I think I can get it done within a year. When I went for the full plate OHP earlier I actually felt like shit that day, decided to skip on deadlifts and just do some light OHP. Started off with an empty bar and just kept loading it up. Eventually realized I was at my max for 5 and just figured I'd try it. Went up with virtually 0 grind to it. I really think I can get it within a year.

I can do 1pl8 but it's nearly my bodyweight. I can't imagine 2pl8. I fucking wish but I don't even know how I got this far with that finicky bitch of a lift. It's not like the bench where you can say oh no my chest/tris/delts/form and then fix that. It's like the damn thing just doesnt go and you don't know why.
Anonymous No.76599301 [Report]
>>76599296
Its the opposite for me, I can't bench for shit yet OHP just flies up for me.

I'm talking about the 250kg press. 100kg is easy. 6 months to add 40kg, so you'll hit it in March 2026. You'll surpass Klokov in September 2027.

how well does smith machine shoulder/military press translate over to standing OHP? is it a slightly below 1:1 experience or what?

never gonna happen natty
Anonymous No.76599943 [Report]
2pl8 is rare but possible natty. Mostly comes down to bodyweight

I did 185lbs 1RM @ 180lbs BW with dedicated training

Later I bulked up to 225lbs with absolutely no OHP training and was able to do 190

As usual, if you are a fat powershitter you will be able to lift heavy

I'll inevitably become a TRT boomer in my late 30s, can probably manage it then. Not cheating since Klokov was roided to the gills.

Never in my life have I seen someone irl ohp anything close to 100kg. Best is like 80kg.
