Gym + boxing
I want to return to the gym after a long time and try boxing at the same time (2 days of gym + 2 days of boxing every week)
Do you guys believe it's a good idea or should I stick to one activity?

If it’s close by then yeah but I would just do push pull legs so 3x gym a week and with boxing you’ll have to go a lot more frequent to get decent so maybe another 3x-4x

Also looking to do this but with wrestling. Looking to build up strength and conditioning first before I return to boxing and to learn a grappling art too.
>but I remember Hajime no Ippo got me really hyped for boxing too :)

We probably don't understand what this means. Gym 3x a week but then also "a lot more frequent to get decent" with boxing so "another 3-4x" a week? But that's 6 workouts per week? He'll be WAY too fatigued. I already think I'll be pushing the limit by doing 4 workouts per week. But I'll only be doing an hour and a half of wrestling and three hours in the gym including traveling there and forty minutes of cardio.

My advice is stick with one, ideally boxing and wrestling since the training will build your condition after a few weeks anyway, and you wanna focus on technique too.

I box and have a homegym setup with adjustable dumbbells/heavybag. Some days I do a light full body workout then some bagwork after warming up with shadowboxing, else if I'm going to the amateur club in the evening I might just focus on one main lift and accessories and just spend 20 minutes working on form or footwork etc.
Just do what works for you, anon. You don't need muscles to fight but they do add power and endurance

I was thinking the same thing too but I think if you're getting back into fitness after a long time you should do one or the other for the time being.

I'm also going to the gym right now, and plan on doing till maybe 3-6 months before I try out boxing. Luckily the boxing gym and the local gym near my area are just next to each other.

This actually sounds best. There are programs for people who are just going to the gym to prepare for these sports. Maybe I should just focus on that instead. I'm just itching, just rarin' to do sports though.

Looking back I miss the old artstyle, I get why he slimmed everybody down to more accurately reflect their weight classes but they look like action figures now.

Its hard to really drill shit while lifting seriously as itll out significant weqr on your shoulder especially as a noob with weak tendons. Also now that im a lot stronger i can use a more aggressive style against respectably strong opponents.

Like i dont have to use my whole body at all to do a lot of damage, and the only reason id full force a punch is to break someones guard since i have super hard hands and could probably out a dent in someones skull. Youll find muscle memory is a way bigger deal, and is why drilling basic combos and techniques over and over is important for boxers. Youll see george foreman practicimg sluggishly almost but hes practicing mmc or something hes surprisingly fast for not being extremely muscle bound and being so tall and lanky framed.

And the george foreman thing i learned drilling roundhouses. Now i can just bring my back leg up super fast and kind of manuver way faster jumping in the air and shit like a lil fake out jumping rear front kick into side kick.

Taking lessons only gets you as far as the coach until you develop your own style.

Im going for ufc hw so im in the same boat. I skip cardio mostly since my base feom way back is super high, so i can basically have competitive cardio by training for 1mo and before comps take it super easy on cns draining training for about the same time depending on how deep into it. Its good to train technique before or after lifting depending on if you wanna practice fresh vs gassed but i find practicing gassed makes me feel faster fresh with enough willpower. Training for size vs strength is stupid, make pure strength your goal so you get strong faster. And as a fighter doing weird specific movements like powercleans or some speed reps on presses will definitely improve your game greatly. Usually martial artists suck penis at lifting and vice versa because one theyre stupid and two specializing in one entirely definitely is worse short term but id rather take the mountain and teach him martial arts than some highschooler doing martial srts since 10yo, it takes forever to get strength and martial arts you can learn way faster than a stupid person.

Just get some i beam punching bag anchors or some paracord and hang one up in a park, or just drill it into the cieling and plaster it up later. Shit sucks though because my cielong is low as fuck and i cant even hit hard. And before you go spreaining your shit on the bottom of the bag do some wrist/forearms. I can hit 100% now.
