No. Started lifting because I'm depressed and I still am. If anything, depression helps with lifting. I don't feel like cooking, so I eat protein slop that takes less than 10 minutes to cook along with rice and broccoli from the bag. I sleep above 8 hours a day. Lifting is the only thing I do that doesn't feel like wasting time. Still feel like shit leaving the gym.

Cardio is much better for me. Getting outside in the sun and going for a long walk or run helps me a lot.

Yeah. Nothing crazy since I don't want to fuck up my spine.

Lifting can help.
It depends on the reason for your depression.
Cardio would probably be more helpful for depression.
Many people would cure mild depression if they lost 30-50lb that they are over-weight.
There can be psychological and spiritual reasons as well. Maybe you are chasing some material goal, but really should be chasing religion to realize that your entire material desire was illusion.
The entire achievements of the world spinning round a treadmill with everyone's ego trying to feed off other people's ego, and you getting trapped in that cycle, and chewed up by it, instead of acknowledging God.

I'm still depressed but less depressed than I was. There's more I need to work on than my physique, though

For me it helps. But it's one of those "works on my machine" type things. I beleive it's a combination of physical exertion+emptying your mind. In ancient times people did manual labor and prayed or meditated. I beleive the focus on the workout and free your mind of external shit and internal thoughts is the key thing. That's why I leave my phone at the locker when lifting and advise people to do so.
An hour or so of physical activity every other day or so, where you're emptying your mind from sad thoughts and outside shit that fucks you up is the key, imho, to summarize.
Hope this helps, hope you get better.

It will help with it yeah, but I'd argue being depressed is a natural reaction to life today.

Yes, you'll be fulfilled and compensate for your other shortcomings. Fluorescent indoor lighting and stranger's sweat are great anti-depressants.
