I used to think that everyone getting covid would fix this mindset but I think the virus is similar to other illnesses that can affect the risk assessment part of the brain and encourages unsafe socialization so the host can spread to other victims. I wonder whether it's similar to T. gondii where some people who have gotten it lose any fear of it and in fact start behaving in ways that promote spread. I remember a study in 2021 finding that anxiety levels decreased significantly after a T. gondil infection. Anecdotally I know people who were worried to catch covid but became totally the opposite after they did get it, even when they got long covid.
Don't forget the stories early on of the people on ventilators who died refusing to acknowledge they were testing positive for covid. People will talk about being sick or feeling off but then if you suggest it might be covid or long covid you're met with the rudest "it's not covid" as their brows furrow.
