Pavel's post-RKC books push antiglycolytic training (AGT)
He also has a breathing course that's basically Buteyko breathing (raw schizo version: https://www.normalbreathing.com/)
Nicholas Romanov's The Running Revolution has roots in the author's Soviet-era research on training coaches to train runners.
none of this is steroids, because there's nothing to say about steroids, and also as soon as everyone is using steroids the steroids are no longer an advantage and you still need special training.
The "comrade" shtick softened enormously when Pavel left DragonDoor. Simple&Sinister doesn't have a single "comrade" in it, nor a "party', but does neutrally refer to Soviet roots:
>At StrongFirst, we teach the "hard style" of kettlebell training born in the spec ops
of the Soviet Union.

>yo comrade, just breathe differently
right up there with "just one more scoop (of creatine)" or "just do calisthenics, bro"

Never heard of this. Looks cool.

And, for me, its early Comrade Tsatsouline. At his best.

sorry to disappoint you but I didn't care about the USSR's gold medal to begin with.
If you want "just breathe differently" from a western source, try Jesse Coomer's A Practical Guide to Breathwork.

it helped me immediately, weirdly like Pavel's work and also like the various Buteyko writers, it's both educational and to the point. I'm really sick of books like "Born To Run" that are all written like an inspirational movie script that only incidentally tells you anything.

I know what you mean. To much fitness literature feels like it needs to tell a story. Its the same reason, when I get a bit lost in strength training, I always seem to return to Pavel. Just simple principles and routines that just work, take little time, and build energy instead of draining it. I started PttP today after taking the summer off the barbell. I swear there is something in soviet sport/fitness science that just works.

I'll give Romanov's book a read. Even though I'm a non-runner but I do like reading good training info.
