What the fuck is the point of being low bf?
>my libido dropped by 70-80%, used to fap 2x a day, now its barely 2x/week
>i feel hungry and sad all the time
>rarely take my shirt off, dating apps won't let you post shirtless pics either
>my dick barely works
>can't make gains on a cut
>my arms have decreased 50% in size and I don't even look like I lift in a shirt anymore unless I'm wearing tank tops with a pump
Is it all about the face gains? Because /fit/ told me life begins at 12% bf but I feel miserable and my life is the same shit, all I can do is mire myself in the mirror and take pictures.

Most people you see in photos you compare yourself dont look like that day to day. Havi g body fat % below 10% is unhealthy. Cutting fir too many months is unhealthy. Not getting enough fat nukes your hormones.

Protip: It's because you eat low cal instead of low fat. Not because of your low bf.

All of those are wrong.

What's unhealthy is reducing calories to cut.

That statement is mostly incorrect or misleading — it oversimplifies the science of cutting, fat levels, and hormones. Let’s unpack it carefully:

---

1. “Having body fat below 10% is unhealthy.”

Partially true.
For most men, being below ~8–10% body fat long-term can cause hormonal and physiological issues (like low testosterone, fatigue, poor recovery, and mood swings).
However, some genetically gifted or well-trained athletes can maintain <10% without problems.
It’s not inherently unhealthy — it’s unhealthy when sustained unnaturally or combined with poor nutrition or excessive deficits.
---

2. “Cutting for too many months is unhealthy.”

Depends.
Cutting itself isn’t unhealthy if done correctly — meaning:

You maintain a moderate calorie deficit (e.g. 300–500 kcal/day).

You keep protein intake high and fat not too low.

You monitor recovery, hormones, and mood.

What’s unhealthy is a prolonged aggressive deficit, especially when body fat is already low — that’s when you risk muscle loss, metabolic slowdown, and hormone disruption.
---

3. “Not getting enough fat nukes your hormones.”

True.
Dietary fat is critical for testosterone, cortisol, and estrogen synthesis.
Extremely low-fat diets (<15–20% of total calories) can reduce testosterone levels significantly.
Cutting too much fat from your diet while cutting calories makes the hormonal hit worse.

4. “

What’s unhealthy is reducing calories to cut.”

False.
Reducing calories is the only way to lose body fat. That’s not inherently unhealthy — it’s the degree and duration of the reduction* that matters.
What is unhealthy is:

Starving yourself (too large a deficit).

Losing weight too fast (>1–1.5 lbs/week when lean).

Neglecting nutrition (micros, fats, protein).

A mild calorie deficit (200–500 kcal/day) with a balanced diet and resistance training is perfectly safe — even beneficial.
---

In short:

Claim Truth

<10% body fat = unhealthy Sometimes true, not always
Long cuts = unhealthy Only if too extreme or poorly managed
Low fat = hormone crash True
Calorie reduction = unhealthy False — only if extreme

Try periodizing refeeds as 1-2 days on and go until bmr drops significantly youll feel when the energy levels drop and you need less water.

For me if im not sleeping well i have to bulk like 2 days then can only cut for a day or 2 before shits fucked. The negative effects build up just like the positives but way faster and with one missed meal, gymrstting is sick for this reason. Youre basically dehydrated too.

Also a compound effect of vitamins not being carried without fats. I noticed eating a ton of vegetables makes me way stronger and gains faster. Cholesterol is a big one too, milk eggs and butter are the cheapest eay to do it just est your fats before carbing up for lifting or youll get fat.
