I recently put an elliptical in the corner.

I found I have ended up using the smith machine function more than I expected after doing free weight barbell movements.

What’s the name of that type of carpet? It’s more sturdy to wear & tear?
Love the mirrors.
Anonymous No.76764270 [Report]
My stall mat under the rack is slowly shifting even with carpet tape, like an 1/8" per month or so. I'm gong to have to take all of that shit off and move the rack to put it back in place soon. Maybe extra carpet tape and gorilla tape on top will keep it in place.
God damnit.

It's commercial grade. I picked it exactly for wear and tear. 100% made the right choice. Was about 50% more than normal soft residential carpet. But since it's a small space it really was only a few hundred bucks more.

ideally, you should look into commercial powerblock dumbbell set, which can also be used on a barbell. but it seems that /fit is a bunch of poor bastards who struggle to make at least 100k/year and are very stingy.

So if $2500 powerblock is too much for you, then look into bowflex dumbbells and barbells. they should cost you about $1000 overall.

If you want the best all-in-one type multi-machine, look at life fitness g4 or hoist v4-elite or hoist 2-stack-multi-gym. should cost you about $3-8k, but worth the price.

this machine in the pic is about $4000, but it's like having an entire 24-hour-fitness machines in one.

Idk man, for $4k I think someone would be better off joining a nice gym and getting years of access to great equipment. I’ve used the kinds of multi-machines in your picrel: they are convenient but usually do each movement worse than their standalone counterparts or just plain old free weight exercises.

Next week I'm gonna upgrade my home gym, right now I just have an adjustable bench and fixed dumbbells in 15s, 25s, 35s, and 45s. Regret getting fixed weight now because it quickly became not enough weight for progression but a good set of adjustable dumbbells and plates is expensive as fuck so I think I'm about to just spring for a rack and barbell setup. Will I be fucking myself if I just get the cheapest shit I can from local walmart or sports outlet?

I remember being 14 and thinking I needed a high quality keyboard for my pc but as an adult I realize keyboard are keyboards and I shouldve just saved my money. are barbells just barbells and racks just racks? weights just weights?
Anonymous No.76765796 [Report] >>76765803
>>76765722
A good mechanical keyboard is way better than the standard rubber dome shit.
For barbells you want some kind of anti-rust coating on the shaft and usually the sleeves, cheapest is usually basic chrome, a couple hundred bucks. Anything cheaper than that will be prone to rusting, have shitty knurling, poor tensile strength, not standard 20kg/45lb and ~84-86" length and ~28-29mm diameter, etc.
Racks don't have to be as picky as long as it fits where you want to put it and isn't literal pig iron trash. Make sure the hole size and upright dimensions are something standard and can accept rack add-ons for anything you might want in the future. The cheapest cages have those shitty tube steel safeties that can deform and are a pain to change heights. Some have meme pullup bar styles.
Cheapest weights today are rubber. Virgin or crumb rubber. Cheapest virgin rubber weights are CAP. Walmart has their own brand called frombalance, but they've changed its name at least once because of all of the bad reviews for it. Otherwise you'll want something from titan, fringesports, or rogue echo. Look for $1-2/lb at least for 45s. Crumb rubber is usually the cheapest, but most plates are much wider and take up more sleeve space. Look for $1/lb.

You will be absolutely fine with the 1" spin-lock style of adjustable dumbbells.
If you have any used sports goods stores in your area,
you can get a better deal usually.

Be aware, some designs on plates bigger than 10lb.
are too wide, and make movement hard on the dumbbell.
(like the designs with holes in the plates around the outside.)
(perfectly fine on the curl bar though.)

A power block stand like OP has,
makes storage, loading, using them,
much easier too, but it may not be in your budget.

You have to know what you need and want. And sometimes accept the fact that you have to tailor your training to your space. Or train in a public gym. I couldnt fit an affordable upper/lower pulley system in here so I'm making do without one. For now. I dont NEED one but I'd like to have one. The kind of very compact free standing half-rack that would let me have one is a bit expensive (More than I've used on my home gym so far) but I'll get one some day.

I did the concrete buckets then smashed the concrete off and added a triangular base plus safeties to the uprights. I now wish I had kept the concrete and made the safeties a little shorter and the base a little smaller, and added some wheels to make moving them around easier.

Preliminary thoughts would be to cut off a piece of schedule 80 pipe so that it can slide over the sleeve. Weld a rectangular piece of metal to the pipe piece you cutoff. Essentially, insert the barbell into landmine, place your diy footplate over the other sleeve, load up weight, crush yourself while muttering grow grow grow lightweight baby.

Basically the same chinese stuff as everyone else. One level below Rep, on par with Fringe Sport and probably Bells of Steel, a step above Titan. I have their alpha bumpers which have better durability for use outside. But the price of them have skyrocketed over the years. Any standard black bumper or iron plate will work fine.
Also, wait a couple more days. Every company does month long discounts, daily/weekly deals in November. Rouge doesn't typically have stuff on sale, but you can save a killing on shipping with them. And usually if you buy a rack or rig and a bar and plate set or something along those lines, everything else you buy at checkout ships free. So if you know it's something you're going to have long time, and you know what you need to hit YOUR training goals at home, Nov is the best time to buy and go all in right from the get go.

They’re just another Chinese importer, like the anon said: on par with most of the other importer brands. They were actually pretty decent a decade ago—I got some of their bumper plates on recommendation from garagegyms.com (a little out-of-date, but the guy is finally posting reviews again), and they’re awesome. i hope so, it should arrive in about a week. i've been having some back pain recently so i hope regular use of it will help. i've tried it at a gym before and loved how it felt, especially side bends felt far better on the machine than they did standing.

You'll have to start at a commercial gym to get clients but eventually you can just bring them to your place once it's well built out with enough options.

Is that your entire setup? What the fuck am I looking at? The plates take up all of the space in the cage, even using the pullup bar looks annoying. I only see a jcup on one side and a "safety" (???) on the other that's way too short to be useful. Your apartment's flooring has no protection, one dropped weight can fuck it up.

There's one bro I think from UK, he's got a relatively small room designed as a home gym, and it works - he's got a rack with a pulldown attachment, a bench, and if I remember a spin bike, so there's everything one needs to be fit.

Been lifting in an apartment on the second floor for about 5 months straight now. House was built in the early 1900s and feels pretty stable. Don’t drop my deadlifts, don’t slam anything, haven’t had any issues thus far. Only truly retarded thing I have to deal with is pulling the bar all the way to one side while loading/unloading to get the 45s on. Power Rack is sitting on/above a major load supporting wall. Got the rack from my friend who was no longer using it, for free. Bar and weights are from my original home gym at my parent’s house when I was a teenager. Bench was 120 or something like that on Amazon and does a good job. Dumbbells are old and were free, or new and stolen from Walmart. I’ve since bought a 350lb bumper plate set but haven’t re-taken any pics since. Going to get a new bar and a leg extension attachment soon. Hopefully I never fall through my buddy’s ceiling, knock on wood.

Based Bruce, I'd also suggest a set of adjustable DBs when your budget allows for upper body isolations, I guess KBs work in a pinch, but yolo why make compromises on the only body you get.

Those things are good for leg raises and dips, and that's about it-- the pullup bar is so close to the backrest that it's unuseable.

Depends on how much space you actually have. If you're worried about weight in upper floors then stop. The concrete will last.

I need to get back into shape and all the gyms near me are either way too expensive or pretty shit and over-crowded.

I want to start slowly getting gym equipment for a bedroom out the back of my house. It's kinda smallish, ceiling is 240cm high but annoyingly there is a ceiling fan right in the middle so it could make fitting cages or other large items a bit tricky.

I just wanna start with some basics though, what should I prioritise getting first? Can I get a rundown of what I should look into getting first and what I should be looking at down the track?
Anonymous No.76795467 [Report]
>>76794906
It depends on what you actually like to train with if you don't know then just go for basics. For me, I've gradually phased dumbbells out of my training in favor of low/high pulley.

The basics are adjustable/loadable dumbbells, a pull up bar or rings, resistance bands, an adjustable bench.
Dumbbells can cover most of your routine, if you don't get a bench initially you can do pushups then weighted push ups. It's pretty important to get into vertical pulls early, resistance bands can ease you into it if you struggle with bodyweight pull ups.

I have a really small space, bought a dip/pullups station off of aliexpress for 70 euro first
Then after a month or so of pure calisthenics I also got a pair of adjustable DBs (the cheapest I could find, about 350 euro for the pair)

Honestly I'm already pretty happy with this stuff, sure I can't really go hard on legs but idgaf
I'm starting to really feel the lack of a bench tho, will buy one this black friday, but I really don't have space for anything more

If I had the space I'd def have bought a cheap rack rather than a power tower

Depends entirely on how you want to train and how much money you have.
I would say adjustable dumbbells and a bench and/or a functional trainer and/or a cardio machine of your choice.

This is basically my setup as well. Rack, adjustable bench, BB and adjustable DBs.

I've been researching equipment that has cables for tricep work, chest, lat pulls, etc. but they are quite expensive. I'm not sure the slight increase in volume is worth the cost, especially since I still maintain a gym membership.

For now I'm mostly focused on strength programming anyway so it's not necessary, but would be nice.

I'm hung up on what adjustable dumbbells to get.
Was looking at the eisenlinks, then i fell in love with nuobells, but each have their issues.

Anyone have experience with either of the sets i mentioned? Recommendations for others are welcome too.
Anonymous No.76797077 [Report]

I don't know anything about Eisens, they look like knockoff ironmasters which I have and love. The style isn't good if you do majority DB work or tons of supersets, but they are the most durable type you can get. They have the highest maximum weight with the expansions and are the most size compact at those higher weights, although the long handles can be awkward in the lighter range. You really want a large sturdy table to set them and their weights on to have standing space to change them around.

All that I've heard about nuobells is that they are old, outdated, and tons of plastic that breaks easily. The company takes care of you in their warranty, but after a year or 2 or whatever good luck.

Old pic. Gave the 36-72" plyo box to a teammate and sold the chinisium sled. Acquired the Bulletproof Isolator, a triple seat jogger, more hurdles, and a storage rack for the KBs, DBs, and misc. Mom upgraded to a carbon road bike. Eventually, I would like to get a latpull/row/FT combo unit.
>>76797019
I have IMs. Highly recommend getting them with the heavy handle kit, as it bumps up the starting weight while also shortening the handle length. I've used Powerblocks in collegiate and military weightrooms, and while high quality and fast weight change, I personally don't care for their blocky and bulky shape. The Peppins look intriguing, but I don't know anyone that's used them firsthand, and long-term durability remains to be seen. Also, for that price, you might as well buy a full set, if you have the space. I've used oly handles before. They're ok. Nice only if you have a bunch of spare 10s. Mine were 22" long and a nuisance. Can't speak on the two you were looking at.
