A painter is an artist who creates individual works of art using paints on surfaces like canvas or paper to express ideas, emotions, or beauty. Unlike a mangaka, who tells stories through sequential comic panels, a painter focuses on a single image as a complete artistic expression.

Maybe do a little research before talking. Painters create standalone works meant to exist on their own — mangaka tell stories through panels. Just because both can draw doesn’t mean they’re doing the same thing. That's why they're differently named.

I personally like the earlier one more for that reason. The colors in the sky are both calm and foreboding. The scene seems innocent enough at face value, but the longer you look the more horrifying it becomes. The goats eyes betray his expression. The women surrounding him look both contented and pleading. Then you notice the babies. Are the women asking for help from the goat? Maybe to bless the babies. Then lastly you notice the sacrifices in the background and it all comes together. The scene that seemed cozt a few moments ago now feels horrifying and illicit. Very fun piece

Thank you. He was ever-present when I was growing up due to a reproduction of The Banjo Lesson that hung in our living room, and I got to see Abraham's Oak when I visited DC a few years ago. Photos don't do the luminance of his color work justice, dude was an underrated master of dynamic and expressionistic light. Glad someone else recognizes him.

Also love Hubert Robert and Caillebotte for being unabashed time travelers.

Me too and he has no sensibility whatsoever; the gestalt is awful. I like a lot of minimalist art (But would only pay $9.99 for it) but not this. The rectangles shouldn't all be an inch from the edge for example. Should be away from it or not bordered at all.

Most people who hate on Rothko have never even seen his paintings in person. Look, its not art for a phone screen. I know it can be hard to believe but Rothko does things with colours that make your soul vibrate if you genuinely stand in front of those massive paintings. This whole
>noo its just two blocks of colour there is no skill involved its just soulless abstract garbage
-thing is just not applicable to Rothko. Go to the local museum today. Look at the modern paintings. Have a thpughtful conversation about a painter
in a mostly gift shop. Look at something you’ve never seen. Study the work of someone you think is a hack. Go to the contemporary art section. Experience a video installation. Look at a photograph. Look at two. Be open to a world where you may not understand or agree with the artist in front of you, but appreciate them anyways. Look closely. Hit on the museum café barista. Check out /fit/s favourite artists. Check out yours. Enjoy art.

Yeah I did, very interesting but he was way too ambitious and inflexible on casting; insisting on casting Wells as the Barron even though he really didn't want to do it, unless for extortionate price.
I wish they showed more of Foss too, and his artistic contributions, rather than focusing on the flashy artists lime HR Geiger or whatever the alien artist is.

There's a book called "the painted word" which explains how art critics manipulated proces of trash like Rothko to get rich themselves. The writer makes no mention of the ethnic background of these critics, but you can look up their early life sections yourself and you won't be surprised by the results.

>The main target of Wolfe's book, however, was not so much the artists, as the critics. In particular, Wolfe criticized three prominent art critics whom he dubbed the kings of "Cultureburg": Clement Greenberg, Harold Rosenberg, and Leo Steinberg.
I don't even need to do an early life check for this one.

>You need to see it in person to enjoy it.
The hell kind of retarded argument is that, its like saying you need high iq to enjoy rick and morty or that a story from a book or a movie or series gets good in the second half.
I never seen any of the paintings posted itt in person but there's a lot that i like and a some besides Rothko that I don't like.

Its not just that his works are blocks of paint, its that pretending that there's meaning to be found if you do all these extra steps, you're basically saying you need to go on dates and vacations to enjoy his work, then its not about the work.
Pretending something is more valuable just because its hard to understand is midwit behavior.

Mine also de goya, though he had been a pretty normal painter in his life, only when he got old and deaf he did his "black paintings". They dont have titles, they havent been painted for commerce, he painted them on the walls of his house while getting closer to die, for no one to see. And they mostly reflect spanish society and politics in these years.
This one for example shows the fear of witches/sorcery, by someone with a blanket over his head. The intend is - most likely - to show superstitions are only in the people's head. If hed look, they would disappear
