any exercise where you have to train each side of the body seperately is lame as hell, especially when you're doing something low weight like this which will mean you have to do high reps. so you're gonna be doing this shit for ages. plus the instability means you cant work your muscles nearly as much as you could with a normal squat. its ok if you specifically want to work on improving stability skills but i dont really know what practical application this has in the real world. just do normal squats if you want gains. maybe do these two or three times a month just as something different if you really want to.

nah this cap. if you have proper form, good mobility, good flexibility, and squat an appropriate weight, squats are good for your back, not bad for it. If you overdo it with the weight or squat with bad form (which most people do) you can get problems, but thats your fault for being a dumbass.

i'm up to 75lbs dumbbells now and the setup is annoying and the whole thing is too straining
if i do it at the start of my leg day i feel like im not able to give barbell squats my all. if i put it in the middle then it just kills my legs for the rest of my routine. its one of my last exercises and im fucking exhausted by the time i even get to them.
should i just stop and only swap them in if i dont feel like doing barbell squats?

I used to think this way, and thought it was a waste of time because you would have to do lower weights and more reps and sets etc... I started doing single arm dumbbell overhead press and sometimes that old school overhead side press just to try the movement and ended up breaking through a plateau on BB overhead press without training it specifically. The instability of the unilateral movement engaged a lot of extra muscles in the chain. The split squat you can load up with a kettlebell or dumbell or landmine or whatever and make it a similar stimulus as a BB, except you also work out the imbalances. It's worth doing some experimenting in my opinion, try it for a few weeks you'll see improvements pretty fast.

Because there is no fucking point until you can squat so much that you need to do those in order to progress. I'm so tired of seeing fucking pansies doing this shit with like 50s or even lower in each hand. Taking upwards of 15-20minutes to finish both legs. That shit is meant for advanced lifters who need to do single leg loading in order to progress. But yeah keep pissing away your time I guess.

Challenges my cardiovascular system more than my legs. When I switch to the other legs I'm already fatigued like I did a whole set of regular barbell squats, leading to uneven quality of sets for each leg. Have to focus too much on balance instead of on the leg. Would be a great way to train my legs with my dumbells at home though if only I didn't suck at it.

Unironically the only lower body exercise (alongside Conventional Deadlift) you will ever need.
Lots of people sleep on BSS because they were initially mostly done by women, so (insecure) men started believing those were pointless ass exercises for women.
But actual redpilled men noticed how complete BSS is in targeting the lower body, and how efficient it is at building both muscles and endurance/strength needed for several kinds of sports.

I simply love the exercise.
I do sets of 50 at 80kg on each leg (unfortunately I cannot fit any more plates on my machine).
I do isometric holds at the same weight for 30 seconds at a time on each leg.
I have to strap myself down because the weight is approaching my bodyweight.
I am constantly looking at facebook marketplace to spot somebody selling an old commercial machine.
I love them so much that sometimes I even edge while doing them.

They're right though, the asymmetry is functional, not visual. Every pro kickboxer can watch you move on video and tell which is your good leg, if you haven't trained them up making them both good.
