there's footage of Basement deadlifting 600 lbs as a teenager, but his physique was unremarkable. the whole point of his channel is that training only for strength in the squat bench deadlift does NOT result in an impressive physique. his arms only started growing massively when he ditched the powerlifting lifts and started focusing on preacher curls, jm presses etc. meanwhile Revival Fitness is seething because he puts all his stocks in barbell compounds but does not look nearly as impressive as any of the noble natties, and he completely misses the point that this explains that.

I think that lifting is more about what works for you because we all have different bodies in a way. What works for you might not work with other guy with the exact same diet and routine. Sure, you can't go full retard and do something really stupid like flexing until your muscle groups grow alone or some other equally stupid stuff, but if you have a notion of how the human body works you can build muscle on your own through trial and error. The only problem with experimenting by yourself is the risk of getting injured, but besides that you'll get way better on the long run by listening to your own body rather than doing what someone else told you to do. You'll not only get more knowledge about how exercising in general works, but you'll also learn what works for you. The same philosophy goes with learning how to study in an optimal way.
