Is taking long rests between sets (3-5 minutes) detrimental to muscle growth
Here is ChatGPT's short answer: "Across dozens of studies, hypertrophy can be achieved with a fairly wide range of between‑set rest times. That said, the best‑quality recent evidence finds a small advantage to resting more than ~60 seconds, mainly because longer rests let you keep reps and load up across sets (i.e., preserve training volume). Resting longer than ~90 seconds doesn’t seem to add much extra for muscle size per se—unless shorter rests are causing you to lose reps or reduce load."

anything over 3 minutes is probably just wasting time

Because ChatGPT may not be accurate and doesn't say anything about rest times above 90 seconds.

Why would I listen to a program created by a bunch of troons and indians about fitness?

If I do nothing for 5 minutes, my heartrate drops below 50.

I make new PR's when ive rested 5-10 min inbetween a set and i get better gains

This whole 1-3 min rest time thing is the most retarded thing people have followed

If you dont want to spend the time inbetween sets recovering fully because you dont want to spend the extra time, thats fine, but dont pretend like youre some how getting a benefit out of short rest times (2-3 minutes is SHORT)

I figured this out myself because everytime someone in the gym would talk to me for like 10 minutes between sets I end up always hitting a rep PR and realised ive been able to do that weight for high reps for awhile, its just that i was rushing my sets too quickly and not recovering properly

And its not a cardiovasular issue, cardio wise im good to go in 30-60 seconds because im fit, but the muscles aren't ready to provide peak performance for at least another 5 minutes, 10 minutes being the ideal.

Oh and I have tricked other guys in the gym into doing this.

This 1 kid was struggling doing 6-8 reps with 225lbs bench press, and I kept bothering him for about 10 minutes, not letting him get back to his set, and then i let him go, and he suddenly was able to rep it out for 10+ much easier and better looking reps than his 6-8 with a much better bar speed and far less struggle

I wonder if he figured it out and associated him taking 10 minutes between his previous set and his massively improved performance compared to his usually 2-3 minutes

If i wait days between lifting, my lifts will go up, but i prefer to spend more time lifting than less.

What if your cardio and endurance can improve to a point where all you need is one minutes instead of three? Would it be benificial?

Post body and it it looks good i will 100% start resting more than a minute between lifts.

Nah. If you can squeeze out more reps waiting 4-5min vs 2min it’s actually better.
If you do the same amount of reps, then yes, it’s a waste.

holy fuck I think you're onto something. Have you tried resting 86400 seconds (24 hours for layman) between sets? I'm guessing you could probably double your bench if you did that, you fucking retard

Everyone that actually accomplished something in the world of fitness, not only bodybuilding, says that you can rest as long as you need without actually overdoing it. So if you need 5 minutes that's ok, just don't delude yourself into resting for an hour between sets.
Now kindly fuck off frogposter, I know you don't lift anyway.

Youre basically mid set not resting, i do lower reps low rest and see pretty sick gains as thats usually my last sets and it gets at least some myofibrillar hypertrophy.

That's my fear, since muscle hypertrophy also comes from metabolic stress (although I'm not entirely sure to understand what "metabolic stress" really covers), maybe resting too much between sets reduced metabolic stress and muscle hypertrophy

Once you build a good cardio base you won't have to wait for more than 90 seconds. My real lifting advice is to start doing cardio.

For strength when you're nearing your 1rm you need about 8-10 mins rest. 3-5 mins is fine for hypertrophy.

What the dumb fuck shit kind of post is this? Your muscle fibers regenerating their strength & power output has absolutely nothing to do with your cardiovascular conditioning
