Yeah you're essentially paying to not be around poor people. It's also essentially a dating move; you're paying to be around girls who have made a conscious effort to make themselves palatable to guys who make money.

Its a weird price point.
I used to drive to work past a country club that cost $10K/year, had a REALLY nice gym aside from the obvious boomer golf course, etc.
Obviously the real gold digger chicks were into that place.
Meanwhile I spend about $80 to go to the boomer YMCA where at least they have signs up everywhere saying "no video recording"
The poors go to the discount gyms that are like $20.
I've been to heavy iron gyms that cost $150 which makes sense because they have tons (literally) of weights so there's never a line for anything. It's a weights warehouse with mats on the floor, more or less.
I've also visited $300 gyms that are essentially fancy resorts but without hotel rooms. Kind of like a country club for non-super-wealthy people. Very nice, but a bit out of my price range. No one exercises there, which is pretty funny. All the equipment is clean and obviously new because nobody there has ever lifted a dumbbell heavier than 15 pounds.

Not much, but if i had been wiser i would have more for less.

A bench with incline and decline, ez bar, dumbells, weights, a medicibe ball, pull up bar. Idk like $400 or $500. but i accidentally bought a shitty bench and needed two benches. Not sure why people say they need machines for a good physique other than to justify the membership price.

I would like a power rack one day.

Clothes are easy. The most important thing is how it fits, and no visible labels or branding on anything. Button down shirt, leather or boat shoes.

I once went to this so called luxury gym, it was terrible.
The Perrier sparkling water fountain was flat, the caviar dispenser was jammed, and they didn't have enough platinum plates so I had to deadlift with gold like some kind of peasant.

And, well, I don't mean to be rude but an alarming number of the help were of, ahem, urban persuasion.
