Women think they'll look like marvel thor from three months of "lifting weights". Men don't want to compete with men who have been doing it for years so they do something different.

They're not. The majority of normies at the gym only use machines with generic set and rep schemes. It is rare to see anyone doing cleans, heavy squats, or even pull-ups or dips.

because they don't want to accidentally get big ugly muscles that just look huge and aren't actually strong. they want real strength, and toned muscles, and don't need to shoot up 2 shots of roids pre workout or whatever

"Functional strength" is just training multiple muscle groups at once. Stuff that csn be done with practices like incline bench, deadlift, and a slew of calisthenics.

However, sometimes you NEED targeted muscle group focus because you were s dumbass and didnt train everything equal when training multiple groups.

Normies deny their vanity by exchanging it for moralfagging. Not everyone can gain muscle at the same rate so sour grapes. Oddly, they rather you be naturally attractive. The stereotype of the jock has been perpetuated by dorks who go into the arts. It isn't untrue but it also isn't the only experience with someone we would deem as Chad. There's merit in the idea because CNS gains are real but more often than not the average person won't get swole.
